Mission Log 3 [Video]

[He's taking note of the numbers, and there's something he's noticed.]

We're getting more biologicals. Do we have any numbers on resource usage?

[Like, y'know, clean water and food? Someone's already lived through starvation and does not fancy having another go.]

No, we do not. The other organics here survive eating each other. [Troll in the dungeon. Kncok Out says that with the most deadpan expression on his face.]

That's what the Pantry is for. We're a part of Haven's Hub, which is near the Junk Pile in the center of the Haven. You can request items from the stockpile, but you will be expected to eventually donate something in return to be able to pull out more items in the future.

[ Saber pauses to think for a moment. ] Actual numbers, well.. we have anything in the Pantry that the Hub was gathering over quite some time. There's plenty of canned foods, clothing, blankets.. and other items an organic may need.

That's all we have that's organized. I'm fairly confident we do not have access to anything long-term, as so far we only have what we can scrounge out of the Junk Pile. [ There's a slight tilt of her head. ]

Numbers, no. But I understand there's been some . . . [what's the word again?] . . . farming . . . being done. And as Saber mentioned, there's the Pantry. Though I'm not entirely sure where it's supplies come from, if there's anything more reliable than just what can be scrounged from the Junkpile.

Ventus received hens and a rooster much earlier, and is currently in the stage of raising them so that we have eggs. At first, they were simply multiplying. We should have them as a renewable source, soon..

[ Saber was the one that helped set up the coop twice. It wasn't the best, but her and Ventus had managed.. ]

A compost heap..? That's a good idea.

That we do, yes. I have mother's eyes. Literally.

Except, that's a lie. I don't have a mother.

But we can use each other parts, that is true at least. You humans do the same. [He has heard of transplants, mister.]

Not sure. The lake in Alpha Trion's quadrant should supply a larger population than currently present for longer than hopefully necessary, but even so, water in itself shouldn't be impossible to make from the chemical elements.

[Cybertron didn't have a lot of water, no, but the atomic elements themselves shouldn't be impossible to get and then combine as necessary.]

And the garden in the same quadrant does have an area dedicated to the fruit I brought back... it grows quickly and plentiful enough I doubt even doubling the organic population into the hundreds would make a dent in the supply...

[Then Jetfire shakes his helm.]

If you would only need one source of nutrition, but I understand organics need a lot more and varied food to stay healthy. In an emergency I believe it wouldn't be impossible to synthsise food, as long as we had organic chemical elements to work from.

[Probably carbon, and organic carbon could be found easily... or other organic elements... since they did have an organic population.]

Others could answer with more detail – you might try Saber or Ventus – but yes, that's my understanding. I do know that Jetfire brought back some . . . a fruit of some kind that he said was very hardy and proliferous in growth. Might contact him too to see how those are doing.

I thought all the organics had one.

How incredibly ordinary. Perhaps you need an upgrade.

[No, no, Knock Out wants to focus on that one because it's new to him.] Then what makes a mother a mother?

That's interesting. How did you do it?

[Oh boy, KO wouldn't be a Decepticon if he didn't bother people. He's going t act like he didn't notice the bitterness. ] And yours didn't, I take it.

Do you have a specialized knowledge about a certain area of expertise or it was just training in general?

[What, you don't like big booms? But no, he could probably do something about it if he was just, indeed, careful.]

It is something of an, ah... disadvantage, yes, isn't it? [The smile is tiny and dry, before Jetfire sobers up, shaking his helm.]

But in the long run, it shouldn't be impossible to do something about it. The issue is partly the lack of equipment - industrial and scientific both, for all of us. If I and those others of us involved in science actually had proper equipment, some form of synthetic food shouldn't be an impossibility, even if energy conversion is somewhat more straightforward.
angleofscience: (inquisitive - how much data?)

[personal profile] angleofscience 2013-05-05 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never had to create synthetic organic food, so I'm uncertain what would be needed at all, but yes, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

[Jetfire rubs his chin thoughtfully.]

Given that it'd probably work with raw elements only, I doubt it might be capable of simulating existant food in any recognisable for, were this to work, but it would be edible... and should be possible to make it taste attractively as well.

[But that was a guess only.]
