It's better than the alternatives, which are completely
lawlessness and every mech for himself. Or an outright dictatorship. [And
he's already lived under one of those long enough, thanks.]
When I first arrived months ago, before and around that
time, there were a series of attacks by one or two powerful individuals. The First-Forgeds' response, to my knowledge,
was basically that they couldn't be bothered with our squabbles and we were to
deal with things ourselves. Those
individuals were dealt with . . . if I remember right, they were killed and at
least some of the First-forged took exception to that. [He shrugs.] Either way, they were dealt with, and that
was the beginnings of trying to put something into place to head off or deal
with future issues. The police force and
the law committee are the results of that.
If every last one of the First-Forged agree with what
we're doing, great. If one or more of
them don't like it . . . what can we do? We either cut our struts and go back to every mech for himself, or we do
the best we can to work with – or around – things as necessary. I don't wholly like it either, but… [another
shrug]
[same lock]
