[It had taken a moment or two..maybe it was three--he really couldn't say--but when everything had finally settled and he'd gotten most of his bearings back, realization hit him as he peered at the mark on his arm.

He'd seen that mark before. Primus it had been awhile but he'd had that mark on his arm before.

Pushing himself up, Smokescreen had tried to activate his navigation systems but nothing was working right and he had no idea how long it had been since he'd been here before. Looking around didn't really help with his problem, considering he was pretty sure he was in the middle of the Badlands.

Lucky, it seemed like his comms were still working, though they were full of static.

It was something though.]

[Man he hoped someone would be able to understand this.]

Not sure--w-w-where I am. Badlands--? Navigation systems not---king.

[He enjoys seeing you squirm from time to time. That's what you get for worrying him.]

[He walks inside the medbay a few minutes later. He assumed ratchet dragged Smokescreen here rather than his own room.]

[It's a lot flashier. He almost didn't recognize him, as a result.]

Provided you avoid unnecessary trips to the Badlands, and your medical scan comes back healthy... yes.

I suppose... they can.

[HE IS SO GLAD TO SEE YOU, KID 8( ]

[Bulk waes a hand.]

Nah, just...hadn't thought about it in a while. [He didn't want to think about it. It was still a painful memory, added with disappointment when some glyphless apparently came back, and Optimus never did.]

I should probably talk to him about it to, then.

[Give him a minute.

Why couldn't you have stayed dead or whatever? But, hey, if ya need help out there, I can go an' lend ya a hand. [With a GUN.]

...Give....give him some time. He's pretty upset.

[His voice is softer and that, plus the static, makes it difficult to understand.

[He backs off a bit, holding his arms out as he looks himself over then beams at Perceptor.]

Needed a new look so the 'Cons wouldn't recognize me right away. Back home I mean.

[Yes because going from flashy to flashier was smart. Smokescreen is good at this game.

His arms drop and his doorwings give a flick, a content glow to his optics.]

You still hiding away in your lab all the time?

[As soon as the red bot walks in, Smokescreen is up off his berth, doorwings twitching contently as he grins happily at the other. There's a glow in his optics though, a look that says just how happy he is to see the other--a true happiness and not just a 'hey you're a good frag I missed you' sort of happy.

Someone cares about the former Decepticon a little more than he's been letting on~]

So you went... flashier? Instead of less conspicuous.

[He doesn't want to crush the poor kid's dream but, seriously. This doesn't look at all helpful.]

[But he pats his shoulders, regardless.]

No. But not for any good reason. Grimlock destroyed it, in your absence.

The pat on the shoulders is appreciated though, dadbot.]

More or less obliterated... I've been working to restore it, but.

[And there, he just looks tired. Shaking his head.]

But things have come up.

[Optics flickering, Smokescreen shifts closer to his guardian again.]

Is.....well, now that I'm back, I'll help you get everything back to the way it was.

[He wants to press, wants to ask what that tired look is about but right now?

Right now he wants to try and cheer the other up a bit.]

[Back to the way it was...]

[That's about when Perceptor does something wildly out of character for him. He stares at Smokescreen, silently, for a few moments.]

[And then just plain hugs the poor kid. Crushingly.]

[Smokescreen doesn't even really have a chance to react, instead just jerking slightly in surprise, engine revving softly as he's hugged. It takes a moment before his arms find their way around the larger bot but he manages and squeezes him back, optics dimming.]

[Sorry, Smokescreen. It's been rough.]

[And he never once felt anything other than guilt over losing you. But now you're back.]

[And maybe things really can go back to normal.]

...

You'd best never do such a thing again. Disappearing.

Maybe I'll wait and see if he talks to me about it. [He's half expecting Ratchet to want to now.]

Where are you? You back in Haven now?

[That takes Knock Out aback and his annoyance goes away immediately. He blinks, realizes that he stopped walking and then acts nonchalant again.]

Missed me, uh, rookie? [Looking at Smokescreen up and down, Knock Out checks for any visible injuries.]

Yeah I'm in the medbay at Solus' temple. Doctor's orders.

I promise to do my best not to disappear again, dad.

[While his tone is playful, there's a sincere note there as well. It's not like he wanted to disappear before..it just happened.]

Of course I did! I mean..you were back home too but it wasn't--you weren't...you. I guess. I'm not sure how to word it.

[He draws back a bit, doorwings twitching as he gets a rather sheepish look on his face.]

Sorry...

I know, I know...I went back too and then I awoke here again. [He rubs the back of his helmet. Boy, wasn't all that awkward at some points.

He grins after a minute and approaches Smokescreen. What is personal space?] At least we had fun with the phase shifter? I got you all trapped and vulnerable~

Good.

[He knows -- that it wasn't intentional. That Smokescreen means it. But even so, he can't really find it in him to loosen his grip just yet.]

[Smokescreen might have to be the one to do it.]

Hope he allows visitors, cause I'm comin' to see you.

[He's headed there right now in fact. He wants to make sure this is real. Just like Ratchet was real.]

I'm not sure I would call that fun, cherrybomb. I mean, you were kind of siding with Starscream at that point.

[He's not angry though, the grin never wavering as he can't help but just absently keep touching the other, hands stroking down his sides.]

But..we're all on the same team now, even if it doesn't really have a name anymore...and you and I are here again.

I'm sure he won't mind too much, Bulk.
