[Because of this. Jetfire is patient enough to have dragged it out this long, both because he would rather either Starscream did the right thing, or he managed to get out himself, but as he hasn't...
Well.
Have Jetfire looking impressively blank as he leans against the workbench in his lab, arms folded over his chest.]
... If someone [since the mech who should be doing it isn't doing it] could help me unlock the door to my lab, I'd be... grateful.
[Briefly, the thin line of his lips tighten slightly and then he just sighs, static loud, before rubbing a hand over his faceplates.]
If you can do it without destroying the door, that would be preferable, but if not, I'll deal with it then.
[Have some coordinates to a building on a terrace on Liege's mountain.]

[She falls silent for a few moments as she pieces things together.]
Let me guess, using one of the hover crafts to reach the Lamdba? If that's the case, I can see the concern. I can also see the rewards.

[He manages to keep from sounding incredulous, merely shaking his helm.]
That type of engine would never reach more than, perhaps, my own height or slightly more from the ground, and hardly any higher and definitely not escape velocity. The issue is that the Lamdba itself seems to affect the space around Cybertron, keeping ships of anyone capable of reaching escape velocity under their own power from getting out from beyond low orbit.
No, the modification would be to enable me to utilise my engine and function as I should and reach the space beyond Cybertron, and thus hopefully be able to get close to the Lambda as well.

[She taps a claw against her lip and considers the idea before tuning back into him.]
And what exactly are the risks from the Lambda?

[Crossing his arms, he shakes his helm with a frown.]
Hence the need for more data and information regarding it.

It might be safer to use a probe, but a probe would need its own extra rocket and then a way to navigate and safely land to retrieve the data, which might simply be impossible given the additions it'll overall need to avoid the Lamda's effects.
[Another helmshake as he looks around his lab while he thinks.]
In that case it would probably be more practical to modify a ship, but while you could outfit it with equipment, you'd still lack the possibility of instant response an active pilot and scientist would be able to provide... and unless the ship were to be remote controlled or a highly controlled course set, there would need to be at least one person on the ship, putting us back at the beginning.

Even we can get the actual limit, that's something worth investigating. What we need is to test that limit before we try to get to the Lamda.
Besides, if it stops physical things from leaving, what about non physical? Then we wouldn't need a ship or a pilot.
