[Perceptor's been trying to keep his head down, metaphorically speaking, since (re)arriving. He works best these days when he can sit back and observe for a while before making his move.]

[Unfortunately, he is still lacking a lab, and there's really only so much observation the scientist can make before even he gets bored. Those who know him best may note a certain air of restlessness about him as he cues up the link.]

[To everyone else, he looks the same as always - stoic with a faint echo of cross.]

What supplies are in the greatest need?

[Perceptor nods.]

I would be happy to examine it once I return. I'm certain that we can produce a functional system for everyone's use.

That would be fantastic! I would greatly appreciate it.

I wouldn't want resources to sit around unused. I suppose, even it can't be used for it's intended purposed, it should be re-purposed somehow.

[He hopes that's not the case, but things should not go to waste.]

Once you return, how long will you be gone?

[He thinks you're just scrounging the Junk Pile, like everyone does.]

[Perceptor nods in agreement, certain that they can come up with something.]

I'm not certain. Until I find enough useful supplies, or need to replenish my own.

Are you leaving Haven?

[HEAD TILT.]

I'd assumed that Haven. itself, would have been rather thoroughly explored for such materials?

[Head tilt back atcha.]

Well yes, but there's new things falling from the Lambda all the time. We have no great way to predict or track that right now though, so we just forage regularly.

[You better not be planning on leaving Haven by yourself, SIR.]

[Perceptor nods thoughtfully, considering what he'll need to study the phenomena of the Lambda's generosity in order to begin developing a system to assist everyone in tracking things that arrive. A project to occupy his mind for later, yes.]

Noted. I shall mark anything that I locate, then, however, it would be best to leave such foraging within Haven to those who are not as well equipped for forays outside its bounds.

[You know, like he clearly believes that he is. Eh-heh.]

[Trust him Perceptor, he could throw project ideas at you all day. That doesn't mean you get to overwork yourself like he does though. He's trying to stop doing that, honest!]

That is a reasonable way to distribute the work, yes.

[Don't make him worry Perceptor!]

However, the wastelands around the Haven can be quite perilous even without the...zombie things. Creatures of chaos roam randomly and they are silt storms strong to ground me and strip the paint down to the bare metal. I wouldn't advise going alone, not if you go far enough to leave comm range.

[Wing will quickly learn that Perceptor's primary function is "overworked".]

I do not plan on leaving communications range. But I appreciate the warnings about the dangers.

[Of course, if it is that dangerous, it makes more sense to Perceptor to limit the number of individuals exposed.]

I'm not planning on a lengthy expedition, Wing. Merely a scouting and scavenging foray, such as I used to assist with when I was a Wrecker back on my own Swarm-infested Cybertron.

[Convinced yet?]

[It's going to make Wing's own schedule look sedate by comparison most likely. And then it might be Wing's turn to wear the Double Standard glasses and berate Perceptor for overworking himself.]

Hmm. I would feel more comfortable if someone were with you. At the very least, I'd ask you to check in with someone on a regular schedule, please?

[Welcome to the bossy side of Wing. Now, how to say this politely...]

[He pins you with a stern look, his voice serious.]

I don't want to see him hurt. [You know which Him.] I may not be possessive but I am protective. So please. Take. Care. _{The last Perceptor didn't and this was over before it began.} And now I mean that in all ways! Including unnecessarily endangering yourself.

[Overprotective? Maaaaybe.]

[Perceptor doesn't really respond much to being berated. Usually it takes a bit more... direct... intervention. Just as Drift.]

Would you prefer once, or twice a cycle?

[Perceptor doesn't actually grin, but Wing is observant enough that he should pick up the amusement from the scientist's expression and that faint twinkle in his optics.]

[That amusement is quick to fade, though, as Perceptor meets Wing's stern look with a solemn one of his own.]

I will not. I swear it.

[He shifts with a small sigh.]

I will be careful, Wing. I promise. I merely...

[He needs to be useful. Really useful, and not doing something makework, like tending a bar or writing more trojan code for Prowl to use on Tarn, or just searching the safe places for materials for everyone. There's so much more that he could be doing, and he needs to... to prove that he deserves to bepart of this community. That he deserves what Wing has offered him.]

It is much safer for me to look beyond the immediate bounds of Haven than it is the humans and other organics, and they have much more irreplacable needs than I do.

[ ~~Like restraints and leashes?~~ If physical intervention is required, Wing has no compunctions against doing so. Or tattling to Drift, if a team effort is required. ]

[He knows the entire area, exactly what's in comm distance and exactly how fast he can get there thanks to Vector's boon. So he knows once a day is likely sufficient. Twice just makes him feel better. He does catch the amusement though and returns it gratitude.]

[Wing gives a solemn nod of acceptance.] I don't know that you can swear it. That anyone could. But knowing the desire, the intention, is enough.

I also know that the best intentions sometimes go astray. _{Even I have unintentionally hurt him}. [And it sounds like it still pains him, even if it was months ago.] We just do our best. To avoid what we can and repair what we can't.

[Another nod, this one of understanding.] I'm confident you can take care on your own, [hopefully being more cautious than Wing has been] and I appreciate your willingness to go. As do those who will benefit I'm certain.

[~~Fortunately, unlike Wing and Drift, Perceptor has no physical feature to earperk at that.~~]

[Drift does have experience with Perceptor Wrangling.]

Twice, unless further assistance is required, then. In such case, I won't hesitate to contact whoever is needed.

[Perceptor frowns thoughtfully, a shadow crossing his own features.] A valid point, but I do so swear it to the best of my abilities. [He just hopes that he never screws up.]

If I require assistance, I promise to request it, Wing.

[And, although Perceptor is certain that most of Wing's concern is for Drift's benefit (at least, that is what he assumes), it still feels... nice... to have someone concerned for his well-being. Someone who might actually look for him if he fails to return, and not simply because they miss his hands in the repair bay, or his rifle against the swarm.]

[He locks the feed, encoding to Wing only.]

Wing...

[He's hesitant, almost afraid to say this, because it's power he's granting over himself to someone else. Rather, it's more acknowledging that the power Wing already has over him, which frightens Perceptor. He's had his fill of counting on anyone else, of trusting another, only to have that trust used against him...]

[Or have it ignored and abandoned.]

I... did not expect to ever have... what you have allowed me. [He vents a small sigh, and drags his gaze back up to the link from where he'd averted it off to the side before forcing himself to make the admission.]

I will not jeopardize that. I promise. But I just need to ensure that... that... I'm worthy of it.

[Complete with hog-tying?]

Thank you, Perceptor. On all accounts. [The layers of gratitude run deep in his voice.]

At this point I'd rather we be overly cautious than not enough. No mistakes like mine. You're here with us now and I want it to stay that way.

[Wing notes the lock, curious, but soon things become clear. ]

[ And dammit Perceptor, stop saying things like that when Wing is not in a place where he can hug you.]

Perceptor... [Wing is clearly moved, but it's not pity you see on his features, it's more regret that the universe is a place where someone as talented as this mech could feel unworthy.]

Everyone deserves love. Sometimes those who might seem the least deserving of compassion and love are those who need it most. I'll engender it wherever I can and I'll certainly not stand in its way if it wants wings to fly. [Let him lift you up Perceptor, he wants to. There is not enough compassion among the Cybertronian race.]

I could tell you that you're worthy, but even the most warm and genuine words can't replace that feeling when you know it in your spark. Only you can decide that for yourself. [He smiles.] But I hope you see it soon. It's there.

[He might have timed this little announcement because you weren't there to hug him, Wing. One part punishment (for himself) and one part omg-why-did-I-just-say-that-I-have-to-go-now-goodbye-click.]

[In fact, Perceptor looks off to one side of the link, refusing optic-contact in his own way, as he shuffles and offers a nervous shrug.]

[Wing is a little afraid he's overstepped his bounds now, or touched a nerve he didn't know was there, judging by Perceptor's reaction. But the words are honest and nothing he intends to take back.]

[And because he's meddlesome he can't resist adding one last thing.]

I know Drift sees it too.

[He offers a slight smile.] Please be gentle with yourself. And take care out there.

[Perceptor hesitates, and outstretched.]

[Not so much that Wing has overstepped his bounds, as that Wing has voiced something which Perceptor is afraid to believe in.]
