[Video] - far above the Haven, with a bit of static

[The video feed, laced with static here and there but otherwise viable, shows Jetfire from bottom half and down, his arm angled to focus on what seems to be a little drone plane insistently burning at full throttle a few feet beneath thrusters.

Though, for some reason, unless he's keeping precise time with it (which, in fact, he's not, keeping himself hovering) it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Far, far below both Jetfire and drone, the curve of Cybertron can be seen.]

I was in need of some... er, distraction and can safely say that attempting to leave Cybertron's near orbit at present, without some sort of modification, won't result in any greater harm than frustration.

[Jetfire starts to drift, so hopefully no one watching easily gets vertigo as he makes a circle above the insistently flying drone.]

I did, of course, attempt some preliminary tests before I was given the modifications, but as there was no way to know if pushing too far would result in a negative backlash of some sort, I didn't think it prudent to try to use too much power in attempting to get past the... er, field that currently seems to surround Cybertron.

[He might sound a bit more clipped than he usually does, and, out of view of the down-tilted feed, Jetfire's frowning because by now he's sort of... on edge due to Things. Hence, distraction.

Underneath his feet, the drone plane's engine nozzles sputter, cough and then die as it runs out of fuel, and the feed tilts, aiming back up to show Jetfire's upper half and wearing his outer helmet as he dives down to catch it, the static in the feed as he nears Haven smoothing out.]

Also, ah... Sari, Kagerou? I have something for each of you.

[You would think he's not flying straight down at speed to catch his drone plane, by his unruffled tone.]

Indeed. I knew something like this would happen as I did test the limits before I got the modifications, but I didn't want to push too far back then. [Sighing, Jetfire turns over the drone plane he's captured, inspecting the burnt-out engine nozzles.]

We really ought to see about modifications for you... perhaps from another source, however. Or inquire how possible it'd be to negate the field more widely than just for singular individuals...

[He's frowning behind his visor, not that it can be seen, and thankfully this is at least distracting enough he sounds less... on edge.]

I would very much like that, in fact. [He frowns a little.] Even if we can't leave orbit, it's better than nothing. I'm not used to being grounded.

Being truly grounded would have been unpleasant, yes. [As he's far lower now than before, Jetfire pulls his helmet off, smiling slightly.] The limit without some form of modifications seem to be right up to near space, not allowing for any true escape from orbit...

At least the... field merely seems to function as a gravity well we simply cannot overcome, rather than... er, retaliating in any substansive way.

Well, that's... something, at least. It's certainly frustrating, but that beats being outright dangerous.

[Because, honestly, he wouldn't have been too surprised if it had turned out that the field could zap them or something of the like.]

Precisely. I had some suspicions that it might actually have some harmful effect if tested too far, which was why I didn't think it prudent to press on without something less... er, fragile or important, but it's clear we at least didn't need to worry about that.

[Shaking his helm, Jetfire looked down past his feet and on the curve of Cybertron far below.]

This test just happened far later than I initially had planned it for, plus the modifications made it somewhat obsolete for me... but that does not mean it's yet the same for others.

[Have a slightly dry smile, Skyfire.]

[You're making it very tempting for him to try something potentially stupid, Jetfire. You know. For science.]

Well.

Clearly more tests are in order.

[Come on, give in and say it, Skyfire. For science!]

Pretty much. Blurr volunteered to help test to see if the ability of flight he was granted through his alignment with Vector Prime works the same as conventional methods of flight, so that is one thing.

I see. Well, I don't have any modifications or granted abilities, just what comes with the model, so... [He can't hold back a grin, really.]

I suppose I could provide a control sample.

[That's okay, Jetfire laughs softly at that, nodding.]

Nothing to scoff at, control samples are highly necessary after all. Care to join me? Since, hm... in fact, I suppose it might actually be a good idea to have those who can and from different realities, attempt to breach the field, since that might make sure there's no... ah, bias in the results.

And after that... [He trails off, thoughtfully, and there might be some hesitation before he shakes his helm.] After that, I wouldn't decline a... distraction, if you'd be amenable to come fly?

I would love to. Besides, in all seriousness, any kind of data would be useful at this point. The more the better.

And I wouldn't say no to flying just for fun, either.

Precisely. [Rubbing his chin briefly, Jetfire shakes his helm.] It's unfortunate we don't have access to more proper equipment to get more, and more secure, readings of the Lambda, but considering the field is somewhat in the way either way, it's a useful place to start.

Thank you. It's been... er, too quiet lately. [A bit of the earlier tension bleeds back into Jetfire's tone and faceplates, because even if he'd be... well, lonely, if Starscream had disappeared back home, there was yet no guarantee that actually happened, so he'd prefer not to risk that it had.]

[He nods in agreement.] It should grant some results at least. And if this proves to be useful, we might have a better argument to get more equipment.

[And then he does notice that tension, yes.]

... is something wrong?

[He nods and drags a hand down his faceplates, but then keeps it there while he speaks.] I know there ought to be some, or at least the possibility to make it considering that the device I took up to the Lambda to read it during the species swapping was one Liege made.

[Wings flicking, Jetfire straightens up and slowly shakes his helm. He shouldn't be bothering Skyfire, but perhaps he's one of the safest ones to do so.]

I suppose that depens on who you ask, but Starscream has... been decidedly... ah, absent for nearly a week now. [His optics narrow, the glow lessening and the colour darkening and Jetfire's mouth twists in something between a dry smile and a grimace.]

Which leaves these two most likely possibilities; either he decided to follow or go with Megatron into the Badlands without bothering to... er, enlighten me as to where he was going, or like for quite a few indivuduals since we first arrived here, the Badlands might be involved in the more... usual... way.

[Does someone sound distinctly unhappy? Perhaps. Starscream should maybe wish for the latter to have happened if it was the first. By now, Jetfire's wings have flicked down, held stiffly along his own chassis instead of diagonally upwards.]

[In any case, Skyfire doesn't see it as bothering. Friends share their troubles with each other, right?

And this definitely counts as trouble, yes.]

... I'm sorry to hear that.

You know, if it helps... going off to follow Megatron without telling anyone sounds exactly like the kind of thing he would do.

[Because, bad as it is, right now that sounds like the lesser of two evils.]

[They do, don't they?

Only just a little. And very frustrating.]

It is something he would do, yes. [Engine rumbling deeper for a brief moment, Jetfire dragged a hand down his faceplates.]

Which is why I'm not going to set out to search or... ah, attempt not to effort too much until the group comes back, but it would still have been... courteous if he had at least left a message.

[Dry doesn't begin to describe Jetfire's tone, and the thing is... involved as they were or not, he'd still have worked.]

[He could certainly understand his friend's frustration. And it was hard not to say something that would encourage it, too - but he chose to focus on something more productive instead.]

I do think that waiting for their return is the best course of action, for now. At least by then we'll have a definite answer.

In the meantime, however - if you need any company...

Indeed. I've kept busy to that end, but at the same time, of he didn't go after Megatron, valuable time has been lost...

[At that, Jetfire shakes his helm, crossing his arms over his chestplates, optics briefly dimming.]

But lingering over possibilities and possible misses will do nothing, so yes. Company would be... appreciated.

[With a soft huff that's nearly a sigh, Jetfire send over his coordinates.]

[There isn't much to say to that. It's true, yes, but the fact that worrying about it won't help is also true. So he just tries his best to smile a little.]

I'll be there soon, then.

[It helps a little, really, and when Skyfire arrives, Jetfire had retreated back beneath the invisible field, waiting at an altitude Skyfire can reach.]

[It doesn't take very long to get there, fortunately. And even if it's not space proper, well, it's still nice to be up here.]

[With a nod, Jetfire smiles in greeting and waves a hand above them.]

The field starts slightly above us... And, ah. Thank you.

[Because he really does need distractions about now.]

[He shakes his head slightly.]

Don't mention it. It's what friends do, right?

[Jetfire smiles again, slow but bright enough, despite the lingering tension in his faceplates.]

I believe so, yes. It was a while ago since that came into... er, play, though.

[Shoulders and wings twitching in a shrug, Jetfire briefly looks away and then back. Omega was a friend, yes, but well... with the changes to his personality, that had turned slightly odd. And maybe even a bit painful.]

[It kind of is, probably, but well... It's only partly the war and partly because he switched sides, even if that was very long ago by now.]
