[video] Edge of Solus' quadrant, crystal tree forest

Since the Firstforged are leaving, unknown for how long, I was thinking we might want to patrol more consistently towards the borders of Haven, especially in the direction of the Badlands.

[She needs some distraction and she's been considering bringing this up since she talked to Solus either way.]

Where, and how far, do the police force patrol? Though, anyone who can and feel like it should probably assist, but coordination would probably make it more effective. So far I've kept it mostly around the edge of Solus Prime's outer border.

[Elita walks as she speaks, looking more at the now rather impressively large crystal "trees" around her than the screen, but not just for admiring them - rather looking for something.]

Also, would anyone be capable of making some form of alarms we could put around the edges? Simple motion-detection ones might be useful enough, but I was thinking of something that might be able to detect the type of energy the Badlands contain.

[Nothing she can do, but hopefully someone else would be - or could try to.]

Frag it.. I can help with alarms. Sure. Gotta see what kind of sensors we have to work with, though.

We have many different routes all around teh Haven, I wanted to try establishing new ones but the recent events had the Police Force really busy handly all the troubles .

I did some exploring on my own when I left, though, but I didn't go too close to the Badlands. [He promised his friends the wouldn't do that after all.] There's a lot of planet to discover and not necessary close to Unicron's land. Why go close to them?

Perhaps one of the scientist will be able to create the alarms?You should ask those in Solus's temple.

Hm. Coming up with motion detectors like the ones you've specified shouldn't be too hard to create. The problem is, it will take time to make a large amount of them.

i can probably make some motion detectors.

although we'll need a sample of that "energy" from the badlands.

If you weren't present for it, recently we had an incident with a huge pillar coming down from the Lambda [she angles her helm to vaguely indicate upwards, even if the Lambda can't really be seen from this angle and among the faintly glowing trees] that apparently required more effort from the Firstforged to combat, and they didn't - or couldn't - return until we had disposed of the pillar.

[Frowning, Elita reaches out to run a hand down a crystal tree and then digs her fingers in around a slightly protuding shard and breaks it off.]

Apparently they feel they need to concentrate on fighting Unicron in whatever method they will do it in, which means leaving.

And thank you. [The smile is quick, but genuine.] The scientists or engineers around here... hm, Jetfire, Perceptor... Wheeljack seems more interested in weapons... Blackarachnia, I think? would probably be able to get you up to speed about what we have available and workable.

[Another, drier, smile.]

It's not really my area of expertise.

Not close to the Badlands, just more consistently towards that end, since with the Firstforged leaving, any greater warning about what might come from there would give us a better chance to defend or attack as necessary.

[Shaking her helm as she knelt down by the base of a crystal tree, Elita chuckled.]

Lose something? No, but I thought it might be useful to have even a slightly better chance of warning if something comes from outside the Haven and aims into it. [A shrug as she felt around the tiny crystals that slowly merged into the "trunk" of the tree.]

We can't be everywhere at all times, it'd be an extra line of defense.

They would be the simplest, yes, so I was hoping that wouldn't be an issue. [Nodding, Elita grimaces a little.] Unfortunately, that's true, since the Haven's spread out in regards to how much is actually used.

[Not so strange given that it wasn't as if teh Haven was an actual city or anything, more like a loose community of neighbours who wanted a lot of personal space.]

And resources are limited simply due to the issue of lacking equipment to get the resources that are there. A start would be better than nothing, though.

[Who is this. :| Not that she does more than eye the text message for a moment or two before replying. There's nothing odd in the message itself, after all.]

I would assume someone of the scientists here have such samples, otherwise a short expedition might be needed, yes. And I'd do the motion detectors myself if I was the least bit well-versed in engineering, so any assistance in that would be helful.

[She uses tools, she doesn't make them.]

Due to the pillar and needing to up their efforts to fight Unicron, apparently.

[She shrugs, briefly looking up, but the Lambda can't be seen from under the glowing "branches" of the crystal "trees".]

Or, at least Solus Prime is leaving, but what I understood of it was that they all are, temporarily or not.

That would be useful. [Have a smile, Sentinel.] If nothing else it'll be easier to plan my own routes with something like that.

There's not much in the way of proper tools here, no, mostly because we lack the equipment to make them.

It didn't sound like she were, no and yes. They all disappeared, at least the ones we've had contact with... if the Firstforged who don't take us in were assisting in the Pillar incident, I don't think anyone saw them.

Thank you, Sentinel. [Her smile is a bit distracted this time as she's studying a small cluster of crystals on the ground, but it's definitely there.] If it would be easiest, you can just send them over through the Link when you have them, I think?

Sensors and alarms are a bit of a speciality of mine. I'm sure I can rig something. The problems are going to be coverage and sensitivity, followed closely by networking the bleeding things.

I think I'll run by the junk pile myself, too. Thanks for the name-drop. Hopefully we can coordinate something.

Yeah, the size is the issue, but if we just cover the temples and populated area's first, it won't be that big of an issue.

[Sadly, this is something she's grown all to familiar with both here and back home.]

Even with limited resources, it should still be possible with all the scrap in the junkyard. We just need to re-purpose a few things.

Unfortunately yes. Other things has happened before, but this was the first time the Firstforged seemed to be either taken out of commission or waylaid and requiring additional, outside assistance from another angle to allow them to finish what they were doing.

I don't think we can expect perfect, overlapping coverage considering our available resources, so the most practical may simply be a widely-spaced net for now.

[She taps her chin thoughtfully with the shard she broke off as she thinks for a moment.]

As for sensitivity... all creatures we've seen so far has been either partly or fully made of metal, which means heavier than the average organic we have here so far, so they'd not need to be extremely sensitive regarding what weight would set them off, I think.

Perhaps we should start there, but something further out would give a more advance warning... [She shakes her helm slowly.] That, of course, runs against the problem of how many alarms we could make and how wide we want to make the net.

Too wide and it's ineffective, even if supplemented with patrols, too fine and we probably wouldn't have enough to cover anything but a very small area.

[Probably not even a single quadrant's outer border towards the "wilderness".]

Hopefully. This should probably have been started earlier, but I suppose it's somewhat easy to get... complacent.

[And she's actually never been in a situation quite like this, or engaged in full, actual warfare organisation.]

Given it's merely energy readings from the Badlands, I don't see why not.

I'm sure there'll be enough it can be done without... sacrificing anything.

[She's not entirely sure how to phrase herself now that she's pretty sure she knows who is on the other end.]

I think it might take a bit too long to get to the headquarters from the outer edge of Solus Prime's territory at the moment [She grins briefly and shrugs.] and I want to finish this so I don't have to go back here each patrol, so sending them over it is then.

Hopefully this will be unnecessary, but considering the things that have happened so far, being somewhat more prepared seems prudent.

A net is just another kind of web and if there's anything this spider is good at, it's weaving a web. I'm sure we can come up with a layout that incorporates both an early warning system and patrols.

But first, we cover the vital areas then work from there. We might be able to make up for the lack of amount of the sensors we need of we give them a wide enough range to start with.

Yeah, we should have started earlier, but we didn't. It's time to fix that.

[It's actually surprising how similar to home this is once she things about it. That's... both reassuring and scary.]
