[video] Edge of Solus' quadrant, crystal tree forest
Since the Firstforged are leaving, unknown for how long, I was thinking we might want to patrol more consistently towards the borders of Haven, especially in the direction of the Badlands.
[She needs some distraction and she's been considering bringing this up since she talked to Solus either way.]
Where, and how far, do the police force patrol? Though, anyone who can and feel like it should probably assist, but coordination would probably make it more effective. So far I've kept it mostly around the edge of Solus Prime's outer border.
[Elita walks as she speaks, looking more at the now rather impressively large crystal "trees" around her than the screen, but not just for admiring them - rather looking for something.]
Also, would anyone be capable of making some form of alarms we could put around the edges? Simple motion-detection ones might be useful enough, but I was thinking of something that might be able to detect the type of energy the Badlands contain.
[Nothing she can do, but hopefully someone else would be - or could try to.]

[Sadly, this is something she's grown all to familiar with both here and back home.]
Even with limited resources, it should still be possible with all the scrap in the junkyard. We just need to re-purpose a few things.

Too wide and it's ineffective, even if supplemented with patrols, too fine and we probably wouldn't have enough to cover anything but a very small area.
[Probably not even a single quadrant's outer border towards the "wilderness".]
Hopefully. This should probably have been started earlier, but I suppose it's somewhat easy to get... complacent.
[And she's actually never been in a situation quite like this, or engaged in full, actual warfare organisation.]

But first, we cover the vital areas then work from there. We might be able to make up for the lack of amount of the sensors we need of we give them a wide enough range to start with.
[You already have her calculating programming and building schematics.]
Yeah, we should have started earlier, but we didn't. It's time to fix that.
[It's actually surprising how similar to home this is once she things about it. That's... both reassuring and scary.]

Indeed.
Better late than never, and at least for the attacks that have come from the Lambda, no amount of ground-based alarm sensors will help. [She snorts and shakes her helm.]
And you might be right, with a smaller amount of sensors and the distance we need to cover... perhaps placing the sensors in an invisible lattice... a web [tilt of her helm] might suit better and cover better than simple straight lines?

And I doubt we even have the equipment for something like that to begin with. I might make reach up a hundred feet or so. By the time it does warn us of an aerial attack, we'd see it anyway.
[Blackarachnia... may or may not be tapping away at a data pad figuring this out.]
Yeah, it would. You'd be surprised at what a well constructed web can cover. Especially if the sensors are placed in the right spots. The hard part will be determining the exact spots they need to go in.

And as for spots... Sentinel will get me the patrol routes the police force use, and I'm going to check them and the surroundings as well, with that, we ought to be able to figure out what spots closer to the temples that are hidden from easy sight that might be worth setting sensors in, and start creating a web beyond regular patrol routes?
[She taps her chin as she speaks, optics narrowed in thought. Ideally, in the end even routes where patrols were made or mechs passed regularly should be covered, but it was probably better to start where no one was patrolling.]
And we might want to focus on the side of the Haven that borders towards the greater Badlands, even if they're far away, since that's where an attack would most possibly come from.

[She continues designing as she considers a few of the calculations, discards them and write out new ones.]
Keeping an eye on the Badlands should be the first priority. It's the place where we're the most blind for attacks.

[The smile is lopsided and a little dry.]
It's a big world out there. [Then she nods, humming briefly.] And I'll keep that in mind, try to have at least three additional spots for any given first choice of location, how does that sound?
no subject
[She just grins. It's probably the quickest she can make the sensors and Blackarachnia doesn't doubt that there will be a little trial and error along the way.]

[Elita's smile turns warmer at that - with the people who've offered, they should hopefully end up with something useable soon enough, rectifying a rather neglected situation.]

True. Good luck. Tell me if there's something I might be able to do that I'm not already doing in relation to this.
