[Oblivious to the current outbreak of unusual sicknesses and whatnot, Garrod is...apparently fine since he's poking about the Pile with no difficulties.

He uses a long bar of metal for leverage to shove heavier pieces of scrap aside, seeming right at home when it comes to scavenging. Something seems to catch his eye, and he grins, propping up his tool so he has his hands free as he crouches down.]

Ah-hah!

[He pulls up a can, and then setting it beside him, works out a couple more, slightly dented but still in good shape. The boy sits down cross-legged as he inspects them.]

Woohoo, canned beans! ...do these things expire?

[Setting all but one down, he pulls out a multitool from his beltpouch. ....Garrod, are you really- yes. Yes he is. He opens up the top of the can and then after taking a sniff, swaps out his multitool for a spoon.]

[Alia's hanging out at the junk because parts. Can't network scanners without scanners. The fact that the network comes to life and has a little echo nearby draws her closer, so she's in living color when she wrinkles her nose.]

You could get botulism and die.

[Small favor of trying to read up on the care and feeding of humans. All the fun ways to die.]

Might want to make sure that can was in one piece and wasn't expired.

I checked- just a little dented, but none of these cans have any leaks. I don't know about expiration dates though, but then don't some of the stuff that we have in storage get scavenged from here in general?

'sides- [He peers at the contents of the can again.] It smells pretty decent to me.

[Garrod pauses just short of digging his spoon into the contents of the can, glancing over at the Link.]

Well yeah! But it's not unlimited, right? And if we keep eating the stuff there, who's restocking?

[Well when most of the people in your weight class are human, it makes sense to read up on that, right?]

I think botulism makes cans puffy? Because of the gas the bugs make? And it's not supposed to smell or anything, that's why it's dangerous.

[She peers at the can itself.. well if it was dented would it have shown being puffy? The reference didn't have any pictures.]

[He pokes a spoon into the can and scoops out a bit.]

Doesn't look mushy or anything either...

Well, if you're going to die from it, it'll happen in a day or two.

[She shrugs.]

If you don't want to risk it, I'll help look for non-screwy cans. I'm having no luck with sensor parts.

[Okay, now he's really having second thoughts, given how blunt this girl's being. Making a face, he sets the can down after tapping off his spoon. Eyew.]

If you don't mind it, then sure! Although...can you tell if it's spoiled or not? And what kinda parts? I'll keep an eye out if I can.

If it's not punctured, puffy, or too dented, it should be good? Cans last a while.

[She scratches her head and nods. That sounds about right. The parts are a little easier-- she has a few in her pack already, just not enough to build more than one sensor despite her being out so long. She shows them around.]

I'm looking for this stuff, or stuff that looks close enough. A lot of things are too broken to use because of how everything just falls indiscriminately here.

There's a lot of stuff around here, so I'm sure there has to be some parts that might be useful!

[The boy jumps down to a lower outcropping of debris to look around before he pauses to glance back over his shoulder.]

This is my first real expedition... I'm trying to build a sensor network and there wasn't much already stored.

And you can find anything out here if you look long enough, I'm told.

I wouldn't doubt it, although I don't know how long it'd take to find what you need. Wonder why no one's come up with one before?
