02 || OTA Video / Private for DW Starscream
[Hello there, Cybertron. It's been a bit too long since Blondie here last bombarded you all with questions, hasn't it? Well, fret not, for she has another, and this time... it has less to do with technical difficulties or new arrival syndrome and more to do with art withdrawals.]
So, I've been thinking. Paint --well, oil paint-- is basically just pigment and medium, so it really isn't hard to make. Sure, it takes a while to dry but... I'm kind of used to having a lot of color on my walls, and it feels gloomy living without them.
[Actually, the entire city could use more color in her opinion, but that's a bit rude to say aloud. Best to start off with her own living quarters.]
Does anyone know what I could use for pigment and quick-drying oil? Back on Earth, most of the ingredients were plant-based and well... that seems like a bad idea here.
[She doesn't want to raid the pantry and waste perfectly good food just for the sake of her art. That's just thoughtless and selfish, and she certainly wouldn't be able to bring herself to do that.
So, who wants to help little miss painter here make some art?
After the video, she quickly switches the feed so it's no longer public. Did she do it right? She hopes so. Well, here goes nothing.
Private to Starscream:]
I'm sorry I took so long to call, but people were acting funny for a while; I thought it would be best to wait until things calmed down. But um... I'm ready for that tour whenever you're free.

DID YOU SAY PAINT
There's solid paints with no sparkle effects except the color and then there's metallic paints that create a sparkling and grainy effect. I like the use that one for my finish.
SHE DID
[Then again, all she knows are that fresco and oil paints are the only kind that will stick to a wall's surface... at least, they were the only kind in her time. Thus, she's assuming he means watercolor, which is fine and dandy, but not exactly what she's looking for.]
The sparkly paint sounds really neat, though!
MOST EXCELLENT. HE KNOWS THIS STUFF
[No lady, not watercolors. It's a much cooler, and heavier, paint.]
It is, just look at me. If you take care of it properly it last for a really long time. What sort of things you paint?
HUZZAH
[It doesn't make much sense with her Earth logic, but then again... a lot of things here still didn't make sense. KO probably knows best.]
Oh! I paint a lot of animals, flora, collages, some self portraits... I've also charted stars through painting. I think I'll do that again here since the sky is so different than Earth's.
\o/
A star chart is not easy to make, are you really good at those? [Impressive.]Portraits, hm? Do you take request?
no subject
[...Rocks should be made of rock, as far as Rapunzel would think, but regardless, he's right about testing the paints first.]
The "rock" thing is a great idea.
And if it does work... I can definitely try to make a portrait; I've never done it before. I mean, self-portraits yes, but... that was all. But if you want one for yourself... it shouldn't be too hard; I mean, you're mostly geometric, so...
[She'd have lots of basic shapes and symmetry to work with.]
no subject
[Not alien rocks, sorry! There might be some normal rocks in Trion's quadrant might, there's is a garden in there.]
Geometric...why, thank you to notice. [He's really product of his nice design.]
I never had anybody paint me anything at all. I won't be picky, if you want to draw me or something else I'm sure I will like it.
[Lies, he would be totes picky about the tiny little details. However, he will like the painting because he really never had one made for him.]
no subject
[She can't map what she can't see.]
Um... you're welcome? [It was mostly an observation since nothing really had organic curves or intricacies besides the other humans and whatever plants they could get to grow.]
Well, we'll have to fix that; I promise that whenever I get all my paints and tools set up, I'll paint your portrait. And I will definitely do it well... though I might need to do some practice sketches first; I've never drawn or painted robots before. But that's probably kind of obvious, huh?
no subject
[Flattering robots is way different than flattering people, you did well Rapunzel.]
I look forward to it. [A chuckle. Oh kid, you are precious.] I don't think anybody could blame you for not being used to Cybertronian's anatomy. Besides, it varies a lot from one model to the other.
This is what you did when you were bored in that valley where you lived? draw all the time?

So true. but euy, he's wearing blood orange, it's very trendy those days
He's so pretentious. It's fucking red.
/raises hand for being personally victimized by Rapunzel
hey you're the one that told her to use a device she has no experience with
I was young and foolish
Don't give your consent if you don't mean it-- /bricked
You took advantage of my innocent youth
Youth as innocent as a politician :/
Is that sarcasm what I am seeing? >:C
No. Happy Opposite Day

video;
Hmmm... unless you have canvas that oil-based paint can stick to, I believe you might need another type of paint if you wish to paint the walls of your room.
[Frowning thoughtfully, Jetfire rubs his chin.]
Which oughtn't be much of an... ah, difficulty to procrure for you, either by looking through the junkpile or, with some more effort, making some.
video;
I've used oil on other surfaces and it worked okay. Not as good as fresco as far as wall painting goes, but fresco requires a lot of plaster... and eggs.
[Neither of which she'd readily assume is in plentiful supply here.]
Anyway, I'm definitely looking into making my own. It's kind of fun getting to choose the pigment myself; it makes the paint... I don't know, sort of special. Wouldn't you agree?
[But paint isn't all she needs, as she realized.]
Um... as far as the junkpile goes, do you think there are paintbrushes in there?
[Those would be a lot harder to make unless one of her fellow humans was willing to get a hair cut for her cause.]
video;
I don't see why you wouldn't be able to find brushes there, though it might take a bit of searching.
... I can't say I'm very... ah, well-versed in painting techniques, but using plaster on the metal seems like a bit too much work. On the other hand, you could probably make use of a precision torch and melt patterns into the metal, painting in the pattern if you'd want a more... er, textured finish for the picture?
[Optics narrowing, Jetfire considers the options.]
Actually... if you do wish to make your own paint, finding what we use for pigments here and the raw materials to create the finished paint might be simpler than trying to scrounge up the shades you want. [He smiles faintly as he gives Rapunzel a once-over.]
However, in that case you might need some more protective clothing.
video;
[Torches seem... hot. And dangerous. And while she doesn't know what a precision torch looks like or how it works, if it lives up to its name, it's probably hotter and more dangerous than normal torches. Probably not a good idea with 70+ feet of not-so-fireproof hair.]
That's what I figure--
Wait. Why would I need different clothes? It's just paint, isn't it? I mean, certain pigments are toxic if eaten, but it's mostly harmless.
...Or is paint here really that different?
video;
Might be just as well, then, especially if you haven't worked with it before. [He smiles a little and then nods.]
Ah, paint isn't my area of expertise by far, but better safe than sorry considering that, while most of the minerals you might find here would probably be the same as on Earth and thus safe, others might not be, especially when in the liquid form.
[He shakes his helm.]
It might not be, but it would be better you don't get hurt if we... er, misjudge something.
video;
[Well, she doesn't much plan on painting with mercury, metal, or anything dangerous and not well suited for mixing with a medium, but it never occurred to her that paint could become hazardous after being combined.]
Um, what exactly do you mean by misjudge?
[Who knew paint mixing could be so dangerous.]
video;
And I am not an expert on organics and what is toxic to them or not, which is what I mean by misjudging, since something could be toxic to you and I wouldn't necessarily know.
video;
Um, well, I know lead isn't good to be around. But most of the time, at least what I've ever known, most things are only toxic if ingested. And lucky for the both of us, I don't eat paint.
Not ever.
[Paint be gross, yo.
She offers a reassuring smile.]
Besides, if I do get poisoned, I'm... a little different from other humans. I wouldn't be sick for very long.
video;
That's good. I have less extensive knowledge of human biology than what might be safe in extended circumstances, so I prefer to take some... ah, care rather than not. And I'd trust you'd know what to eat and not.
[He smiles a bit dryly at that, and then tilts his helm.]
You wouldn't? Not for reasons pertaining to normal human... er, immune system or your body repairing itself, I take it?

As for the tour, I'm not busy tomorrow.
[Because he's totally an important person who has plans sometimes and stuff]
Any idea what you'd like to see first?
[private]
[Oh dear, if he's that busy, she's lucky that he isn't booked all week... or still "affected". Let her show a grateful smile for those blessings.]
Hm... I've seen Elsa's castle, and I've done a little bit of walking around, but I guess I don't really know what there is to see. Why don't you surprise me?
[private]
...
[Which leads to a very important question.]
Do you like flying?
[A whooooole neeeeew woooorld. A new fantaassstic point of vieeew]
[private]
It was, um... exhilarating. [Terrifying.]
But I know what to expect now! So I should be fine, right?
[private]
[You can totally trust him.]
What temple are you living at? I'll pick you up in the morning.
[private]
[Look at that face. She trusts him 200%. He could tell her the moon is made of silver and she'd probably believe him.]
Um, I think this is Vector's temple, if I remember right.
