[Despite having found haven in the Solian temple, Wheeljack wasn't one to stick around in one place. It made him positively antsy, and to be honest, there wasn't much to do there. The longer he stayed, the longer Ratchet would mother-hen him into thinking something was wrong with his processor, or that a dent on his chassis meant irreparable damage. As touching as that was, he decided to stretch his wheels. It's not like they could do anything or go anywhere, after all, so he headed towards the only place he knew of: the junk pile.

Not that he minded that. It was a good place to search for materials. Something to make a good grenade with. Because really, with two Starscreams and counting he had to make sure he had the perfect present for them if the time called for it. And he couldn't rely on the one latched to his hip permanently. It was bound to be used sooner or later.

Figuring he could use a bit of help in this area, he decided to switch on the communicator.]

So...anyone want to go on a treasure hunt?

[He could be seen digging through a pile, tossing out this and that.]

[He frowns.] You think we have a reason for them?

[It's an honest question--he's spent the last week doing his loner thing in the Junk Pile or getting frowned at by Pharma. He's not up on current events.]

Sure. I can look. You just need explosives or detonators as well?

[As much as Wheeljack hated to admit it, he'd rather play on the safe side with this.]

Fraid so, partner. There's...if you can believe this, more than one Starscream running around.

I should be able to get the detonators myself. Just need casings, wirings...you know.

[This deals quite a blow to the theory Drift's been trying to nurse about them being brought here because they are important and special.]

I'm surprised this place can hold that much ego.

[All ~~lame~~ jokes aside, Drift does see the seriousness. He's just trying to be less gloomy.]

You usually make your own demolitions?

[It's okay, Drift. Wheeljack's one for joking, so he'll chuckle at that statement.]

Guess we just have to kick it down a notch, yeah?

[At that very mention, you can see Wheeljack's eyes light up.]

Wouldn't be much of a Wrecker if I didn't.

[Wheeljack must set the bar for 'humor' low. ]

We might find ourselves in a situation of having to save one of them from another one.

[Because Starscream-on-Starscream crime could end up with a lot of collateral damage.]

Hey, having Screamy in our debt can't be a bad thing...

Not that I wouldn't mind sockin' one in the face...

[An eyebrow perks at that last bit.]

Yannow, the Wreckers. I'm a member of it myself...

[He pulls out one of his blades, twirling it in his hand. What a showoff.]

Depends on if you trust Starscream to repay a debt.

[Which...Drift doesn't. Not really. Some things never change: Starscream's one of them.]

[He grins. That probably would feel pretty good.]

[He blinks.] You're not in the Wreckers where I come from.

[And he's tempted to show off his own swords, but, you know, oozing rust.]

Nice swords. [But he will admire a fellow swordsmech's kit.]

[Yeah...expecting ANYTHING cooperative out of a Starscream was wishful thinking, now that he mulls it over.]

Wait, I'm not a Wrecker in your world? ...What am I?

[That was the second time he'd heard this news. First from Blurrk, now from Drift.]

And ya like em?

[Wishful thinking or the result of getting whacked on the head?]

Wheeljack? You're a scientist. You invent stuff.

The slicing, well, [Drift shrugs, tapping his swords] Sort of my job.

[Drift grins.] Any weapon's only as good as the wielder. [Is that a challenge? It might be.]

[Science? That sounds beyond lame. He'll just let Ratchet do that job.

[Wait.]

No kiddin', you're a wielder too?

[That grin only gets wider.]

Heh, you sure sound pretty confident.

[...but it's really important science?]

[Yeah, Drift's not a science type, either.]

[He draws one of his blades.] You could say that.

[Oh wait. You just did.]

You're not the only Wrecker, Wheeljack.

[No way. When Drift draws his blade, his optics light up like two binary stars. And then...-]

[Different universe or not, a Wrecker's a Wrecker.]

I was. For a while.

[The Wreckers as Kup was putting them back together after Pova, after Impactor's trial.]

[He shrugs.]

The Wreckers didn't judge anything but how well I fought.

[He's half tempted, then he tries to talk himself out of it. Then not. What the hell. Another sword geek.]

[He draws the Great Sword from between his shoulders. As his hands contact the hilt, the blue gem blazes to life.]

This, though. This is the big one.

[You jealous?]

[Slightly, not that he'd ever show it. A smirk spreads across his face, pretty much giving him the child-in-a-candy-shop look.]

Now THAT is a work of art.

[Of course he wouldn't show it. That would ruin this macho wave they're surfing.]

It is.

[Okay, busted, he's staring at his own sword.]

Only used it once. Only ever had to use it once.

[This is pretty much the manliest conversation he's had since he got here. You've no idea how thankful he is for that.]

Blade like that's gotta pack quite a punch. Where'd ya get that?

It does. It draws on your spark energy.

[Which also means it could kill you. Hence why Drift doesn't whip it out very often.]

I got it some place far from Cybertron. After a battle. As a sort of reminder, and a pledge.

Spark energy, huh? I guess that'd be why it's been only used once. Seems like a double edged...well...sword.

...Pledge?

[Drift laughs. Because that was funny.]

I think that was kind of the point. A lesson, that you shouldn't go around attacking everything.

...it's why I also have these. [Drift pulls out his two short swords. Because 'attacking everything' is what Drift does.]

Pledge to the Circle of Light. They were peaceful. They fled our war, saved what they could of our culture. They made me see...where I had gone wrong.

[Yeah, attacking everything seems to be more of Wheeljack's style too. And...he gets the feeling this will be a beautiful friendship.]

Good backup plan. Those are some pretty nice blades, if I can say so.

[He was about to say something, but the pledge catches him.]

Come again?

[Oh, a way to any mech's spark is to praise his weaponry, Wheeljack.]

They've seen me through a lot. [He gives a proud grin.]

What? The Circle? [A deep breath. Here's a long story.] We, the Autobots and Decepticons, we were destroying our planet, utterly. A group left, unwilling to choose sides, and determined to save something of our culture.

[Wheeljack listens to the story, picking out the vast similarities between his universe, and the one Drift was obviously from.]

So Cybertron's still kickin' where you're from...

Despite our best efforts. We'd thought it was dead--twice.

But the planet is stronger than any of us.

[He frowns at the implication behind the question.]

Yours isn't.

It's got some stamina, I'll give it that...

'nfortunately not. Story says too much battle ran the planet dry. Nothin' left to save...
