[Video] feeling the Call

[Drift has looked better. His armor's dented and stained, but nothing looks obviously fatal. More than that, he looks...tired. And twitchy. Which is not a good combination in anyone, least of all him.]

Going back out to the Badlands.

I've felt something like it before, though. I have to at least be able to do...something.

It was a god or something from the Dead Universe, trying to cross over into ours.

It took us. Decepticons. All of them.

If such is the case, then I think it clear that it is not something you can handle alone, Drift. Though...I have felt no entry from a god, or an entity even on our power. Such a creature would create an imprint I would sense.

I have to be able to do something. If I can't fight it I can at least save them from...what it did to me.

Because maybe it'll be like then. Maybe it only goes after my kind.

...what did...no. Drift, I warn you, this is a poor idea-! To go to the Badlands because you hear something that reminds you of a god from a Dead Universe, that-

What else can I do? Just wait for it to get worse? Wait til I hurt someone here?

-why would you hurt someone? Aside from the few here who deserve to be taught some sort of lesson, but that's...that's entirely besides the point. Whatever you do, I think it the worst to step outside the Haven. Our power here is strongest, and if you do sense the prelude to an assault [of which he seems uncertain] then it would be best to strike from here. Not to separate yourself.

Because that's what happened last time. I started attacking my friends. The only way I could stop myself was...to stop myself.

Like what? How can I make sure I keep them safe?

Cementing the defenses here? Drift-

The best defense is a good offense, to stop your enemy from fighting in the first place. But not when it leaves more open to attack, where they can simply go around you to strike where you are weak.

Help remove what weaknesses there is, so that if - when - there is an assault, we will be ready, and can then focus on countering it.

What weaknesses? Why is this happening now? Or did this happen before we got here, too?

You are...not making this worse. If anything, the opposite.

Drift, I am sworn not to speak of the things you ask of me. You ask me to break my promise. Please- for now, suffice it to say that we have watched more than those who are now here wander in to the Badlands before, and we have mourned their Loss. We do not wish for this to happen again, and your simple presence here helps prevent that.

I know you do not trust me.

But if nothing else, trust that.

...until we, too, succumb to the Badlands. Or whatever's taken those who have come before.

It's not that I don't trust you. You haven't lied. You just haven't...told us everything.

How could you stop it from happening?

[He senses the anger. And he's not angry himself, just...frustrated. Because real lives are at stake to him. Friends' lives.]

What we know-

...what we know, for a fact, as the surest way to prevent you from succumbing to the Badlands...is to cement the bond between the two of us. Or whatever patron has been forged. So long as there is the bond, the stronger it gets, the more powerful one can be against the Badlands. It is the only thing we can count on to lead us to removing them, and to end this once and for all.

[Drift just brings out the best in mechs, doesn't he?]

One way or another. There is power in it, and through that power, we both gain strength. But that can only happen with time.

And at what price? Great power comes at a cost. Otherwise everyone would have it.

It depends on the nature of that power. For some...it is a simple matter of time. For others...there is a route to cement it far more quickly, but it is not to be taken lightly.

...so it happens, one way or another.
