[This isn't where he was supposed to be. He was on the roof just a second ago. Why... why is he in the temple now? It doesn't make any sense.]

[And then the feeling of loss sets in. Considering he can no longer recall the events leading up to, and including the fight with Overlord, he can only assume this loss is of memory itself. The most important thing he has...]

[... needless to say, when it finally occurs to him to grab the Link and make a call, he sounds utterly frantic.]

Someone -- please. I don't know what happened. I...

[He actually needs a moment to calm down enough to speak.]

... My memory is... there is something missing. I can feel -- I can feel it!

Please. Help.

[This is the most distressing thing in the world... at least until someone tells him he was dead a minute ago.]

[He won't go anywhere. He'll still be right where the video feeds showed -- curled in on himself to one side of the altar.]

[Maybe if he tries to recover the data manually. It has to be there. He can't have lost any. He just can't.]

[When they enter, he'll look up, sharply, almost fearfully, but won't move from his spot.]

I am, too. Cheetor just said he'd felt 'weird'. Not that he was missing memories.

[He rolled to a hard stop, figuring Vandal would forgive him the rough driving in the interest of speed. He popped the door, waiting for her to get out before transforming.]

Kagerou. Vandal's here. [As far as Drift is concerned, he's just the taxi, unless Vandal needs him to do something.]

Yeah. He's pretty concerned with memories, so it doesn't surprise me. Thanks, hun.

[ She pats Drift's leg, as far as she can reach, reassuring before approaching Kagerou cautiously. ]

Hey there... it's okay. You're gonna be alright. We're here for you.

[He stops twitching, at least, when they actually approach. Yet he still makes no move to get up or approach. It's like looking at a bird too scared to move away.]

[But he does... pry a hand out from his bundle of self to lower it nearer Vandal when she comes close enough. Slowly though.]

I can't recover the data. It's just... gone. Deleted.

[It's said with an air of hopelessness. One of his worst fears -- granted, it isn't all his data. But it's apparently a large chunk.]

Why would -- why would anyone here... delete me?

[Drift has no idea how to help, so he just hovers helplessly behind Vandal. ]

But not all the data. You remember some things. You remember Kay. You remember Vandal.

[He's trying to find the bright side.]

[ She fearlessly steps into his hand.]

Absolutely right, Drift.

And look-

Hey, we can work on getting it back. Everybody forgets sometimes, that's a part of life. We'll just go back to the medbay and have a look at you and we can start sorting things out there..

But you have to do me a favor and come with us. Think you're up to it?

[He curls his fingers around her a little -- not to harm, just to hold. Something real, something familiar and safe.]

I'm still... missing part of me. My self. I'm not alive... like a human being. Like -- [He looks to Drift.] -- you. Data is all I am.

If I forget... if they take my data... I lose myself.

[He hunches his shoulders, but nods. Yes, he'll go with them. Maybe it will help.]

Kagerou. You're alive. You have feelings and friends. The rest is just...words.

[He's trying to be helpful--stepping closer to help Kagerou rise if he needs it.]

You won't lose yourself.

Yes. It's normal. Humans- we sometimes forget too, but not completely. We won't let anyone take your data.

Now come on. Let's get you somewhere safe. Drift-?

[She nods to the swordsmech to help Kagerou stand.]

Feelings are just data. Just programming. If I lose it... what do I have left?

... someone already took some. It's missing -- I feel it.

[He looks up at the Cybertronian, holding the hand Vandal's riding in up to his chest -- safer that way, he figures -- before he even starts getting to his feet.]

You still have friends. Who care about you. And who will help you make new memories.

[Drift reaches, to get an arm around the other robot, helping him gently get to his feet.]

Exactly. Let's just get back where we can figure out what's missing.

[ She gives Drift an apologetic look. Thank you. ]

... make new memories.

[He says it slowly, as he's pulled up.]

[New memories will take their place. Close enough. Familiar and painful enough.]

... we should go. Yes.

[He shoots a sort of helpless look at Vandal as he starts moving Kagerou toward the door. Drift feels like everything he's saying sounds really stupid.]

[He generally feels like that but this time it could really do damage.]

It's something. [He gives a nervous smile.] Good memories matter, Kagerou.

Yeah. It'll all be okay, you just gotta be patient.

[He nods faintly. Honestly, he's glad someone's here. Someone he trusts. As much as he suddenly, desperately, wishes for the familiarity of a certain someone -- these two, this human being and this living robot, they care.]

[... they're friends. He has friends.]

I can try. I can... I will try.

[He lets Drift walk him around, not entirely paying attention to where they're going. Trying not to fixate on what's missing.]

I'm just afraid.

I think anyone would be afraid in your situation.

[He looks to Vandal for direction--where does she want him?]

It's okay to be afraid.

[ She looks to Drift. ]

We'll get him to the medbay where we can hook him up and do some scans.

[He only nods. Walking and holding onto something are a simple task to focus on. Besides, the weight and the tactile sensations are... grounding, in a way. They're real and present. They're not going to disappear.]

[He'll be quiet for now, and focus on what keeps his mind from going back into panic-mode all over again.]
