[video 03]

[When the feed switches on, there's a Tuck sitting there, looking as though he may be holding his device in his lap from the angle of everything. Where he is, though, is anyone's guess. He looks more or less tired, though from the condition of his skin, it's hard to tell anything by looks alone.]

Back home, I lived on the streets in a major city for a while. I can tell you I've had to bust a few heads just to stay alive. It's not that I'm saying this to try and prove anything or to try and gain pity. But this place and what's been going on recently, I don't think it'll get any better. There are things here I've never seen and I don't know how to properly defend myself against any of it.

I don't need to be told I'm not home anymore, and I don't know if I ever will be. [That thought gives him pause, though not for long.] But with that in mind, I've been thinking. I'm not the only not-a-robot living here, but I don't want to just sit around and hope someone will protect me. Never was a fan of that sort of thing. So how have you guys survived?

[That gets a smile out of him. Cooking is something he can do.] Life in general, I'm not so worried about unless the Junk Pile suddenly stops getting food or the garden goes dry. I can make do with a little and make it go a long way, and I'd be happy to help you out with that. I meant more along the lines of damage control for what happens to those of us who aren't a walking armory. Either way, it works.

[Excellent. He smirks.]

Then as far as I'm concerned you can have one'a the cabins, at least after we clear the stuff into the closet. Bed's all yours.

Around here? I'm pretty new, but seems to me you just need to keep your head on straight, be careful who you make a deal with, and stay out of business between angry guys who can squish you.

And you find somebody to get your back. Lucky for you, my back-covering means cannons.

[Cabins. Those sound like the old water tower he used to live in, but not.]

I'll be more than happy with just a bed. Thanks, man.

Eh, keeping out of trouble hasn't been too hard until this mess with the voices and everything. I had to lock myself up with Wing and Soundwave for a while there. That stuff was about to make me crazy, and I've never been crazy as far as I know. Now new people are showing up out of nowhere, and so many of them. Not sure if you'll need those cannons.

Speaking of cannons, are you talking about guns? When I said I had to make do with what I have, I never had a weapon or anything. Then again, I didn't need one. I'm pretty good about getting out of dodge if I have to.

[Whatever you're imagining, Tuck, these are probably nicer.]

I've got plenty of room and an empty ship, besides the bird.

You're tellin' me--had to lock up the ship's nav system so I didn't point her in the wrong direction. And now there's all these new guys.

I'm talking about cannons. The big kind. But I've got guns, too. You want one, we can talk--I'm not handing a gun off to a newbie.

That's cool. I've gotta admit, I'm curious as to what you did back home, for you to have a ship with cannons. Sounds like something out of a video game almost. Guns would be nice, too, but I'm not gonna lie, I've never handled one before.

[If Tuck still had eyebrows to raise at that, he would.] Really? A pirate? Like, hooks and swords and parrots, but in the future? That really does sound cool. What was it like?

[Marvelous opens his mouth to answer, he's interrupted by a mechanical bird to the head.]

My name's Navi!

[He grabs her and plops her on his shoulder.]

Dammit, bird. Not many hooks, but plenty'a swords. And birds, obviously. Mostly it was a lot of work, fightin' evil empires, the works.

[At first glance? Yeah, he kinda likes your world.] Aw, I almost wish I could've seen it. We had something like that back where I lived, but the empire was trying a little too hard to protect people.

See, ours wasn't any kinda nice, more 'surrender or die'.

So, we trashed 'em.

If you're gonna be sleepin' on my ship, guess we should swap names. Captain Marvelous.

Yeah, that's kinda like how ours were. They didn't like taking no for an answer, but there was one guy on our side of things. He tried to help me and some friends out.

Nice meetin' you, Captain. I'm Tuck.

You get guys like that every empire, I think.

I mean, I was that guy. But I won't tell if you won't--it'd ruin my reputation.

Don't Captain me, Marvelous is fine. Nice meetin' you, Tuck.

Where are you, anyway? Can't rightly offer you a spot on my ship and then not pick you up.

[He shakes his head, a little amused, a little sympathetic.] Nah, I get it. Got a few secrets I'd rather the world not know myself. So, Marvelous it is, then.

[That gets a little tilt of his head.] No, I guess not. I'm in Nexus Prime's temple right now. I can come out and meet you somewhere if you want. I won't be bringing much with me, just some food items I've been hanging onto. It's not much [And does he feel bad about that? A little.] but it's a start.

He means he doesn't want them to know he's a hero---!!

[Marvelous claps his hand over Navi's beak, a strained smile on his face.]

Nexus... oh, I do know where that is. You gather your stuff, I'll make my way over. Keep an eye out for the big red shadow.

And kid? Trust me, everybody starts small.

[Navi's explanation gets a grin out of him. He's starting to like these two already, and hopefully it'll last. His luck really could use a lift at the moment, and maybe so could it for all of them.]

Your friend has quite the mouth. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone.

[There's a bit of chaos from the feed as Tuck moves to get himself up.] I'll sure do that. And... really, I can't thank you enough. How do you feel about Chinese cuisine?

[Did Marvelous... even know what that was?]

Yeah, my whole crew's got a knack for talkin' a lot.

[His eyes light up.] You can't get up here fast enough, is how I feel.

[Yes. Yes he did. Gai had made a habit of cooking a variety of things. And, really, if it had meat in it Marvelous was game.]

[Oh? Did he just make a friend? How cool is that?]

Yeah, I'd been wondering about that, you on a ship and everything. But hey, let me get my stuff and we'll meet up. I'd like to meet everyone else, too.

[You'll never escape now, Tuck. Never. His face takes on a melancholic tilt, though.]

Sadly, they didn't get pulled through. Thankfully, I can fly the ship myself, so it hasn't been a problem.

See you, kid.

[Sounds like a plan.]

Aww, that's a shame... Well, maybe, maybe not. Tell me all about it when you get here.

[He gives the feed a little salute and cuts the video. As he promised, it won't take him long to get what he needs together in his backpack, and once that's done, he'll head on out to meet the ship. Looking for a red shadow, looking for a red shadow.]

[It's a big red shadow, Tuck, you won't be able to miss it. Marvelous doesn't dare drop one of the admittedly very large anchors this close to the temples, but he does drop a line of chain to hop down to the ground. Thankfully, the Galleon's still in low orbit, so it's not too long a drop.]

Yo.

[Oh. Oh, wow. Yeah, there's no way he can miss that.]

Nice ship, man. You have this whole thing to yourself, with just your bird friend?

Thanks--inherited it.

And it's not just me now, is it? It's me, the bird, and you.

[He points between himself, the ship, and Tuck in order.]

Want your first pirate lesson?

Yeah, I guess it is. [He tilts his head, shifting his pack a little on his shoulder as he does. It's light enough and from the way it sags down somewhat flat against his back, it's easy to tell he really wasn't kidding when he said he'd had little to take with him.]

Uh, sure? What's that?

Then there you go.

[Marvelous grins, and holds out the other chain.]

Hold on tight.

[He'll do one better - his arm elongates as he reaches out to take that chain, wrapping around it a few times before he gets a grip with his fingers. Yeah, he's cheating a little, but he won't be falling off.]

Got it.

[Marvelous's eyebrows shoot up, but his expression is impressed.]

Nice. Oi, Navi!

[He tugs on the chain wound in his fingers, and waits for it to start the ascent up.]

[He just shrugs; it's nothing, really. You should see him unravel completely if that's interesting to you. But he won't do it while cooking. Longer arms might help though.]

[Besides, he's more impressed with the ship. He thought Marvelous might have meant something like what he'd expect to see on this planet, not something that looked more like a traditional pirate ship. This is pretty awesome.]

[Marvelous swings off the chain onto the platform in the engine room, turning to watch Tuck.]

Welcome to the Gokai Galleon. Sorry about the view, all the fun stuff's upstairs.

[Oh, don't worry. He's already impressed. Him and machinery? Maybe it's just a guy thing, but he likes what he sees.]

No, no, it's great. [He's all kinds of looking around here.] I love it.

You and me both. Crew deck is above us, then the bridge--and the kitchen-- is above that.

She's a pretty compact ship, besides the size. I'm puttin' you in the Doc's room, since it's quiet and he barely used it anyway.

[He turns to lead the way through the massive engine coils and up the three flights of metal stairs to the crew deck.]

[And right along, he'll follow Marvelous through the ship, taking in as much as he can, while he can.]

Looks big enough to me. Better than enough.

I'm sure she'll be glad to hear it.

[ The room that's been cleared out for Tuck is dominated by the bed and desk. The bed isn't made--who do you think Marvelous is--but there's presumably clean sheets and a blanket folded and left at the foot of the bear mattress. There's a closet just beyond the bed that's clearly been cleared out recently, and there's several stacked boxes of--stuff--tucked into the back corner of it. Above the bed is a small window, round. It's hardly cramped, but it's a compact space. ]

This spot's best for not getting woken up by engine noise.

[It's a small space alright, but it's not anything he can't live with. Compared to his previous digs, he's actually very much comfortable here. The space he had occupied looked like it had been meant for someone about five times his size, not for a kid who could only reach up to the lowest shelves because he could do things no human was ever meant to do.]

That's cool. I used to live in an old, abandoned water tower in the city, so I'm kinda used to loud sounds nearby. It won't bother me. I'm just grateful you've decided to take me in and I appreciate it.

No reason to live smaller than you have to, Tuck.

[ He clears his throat; clearly he's a little embarrassed. ]

Not like I'm not getting something out of it. And in a place like this, it helps to have company.

[ Not that he was lonely, or anything. ]

[To that, he just shrugs. He didn't really have a choice back then, even though they got to claim a few small luxuries of their own. But he understands - really, he does - the want to not be alone.]

Not a problem at all. Hey, speaking of which, why don't you show me the kitchen so I can get to know it? I'm anxious to see what I'll be working with.

[ Ah, yes, something to focus on besides how empty the ship is. Marvelous hops on that immediately, leading down the hall and up the stairs to the bridge. It's a long, large room, and Marvelous slides behind the mast to the entrance to the kitchen. The kitchen itself is, like the crew cabins, fairly compact, but clearly well-cared for. Atop the fridge, Navi is perched. ]

That's the bridge, obviously, and this is the kitchen.

And I'm Navi!

Yeah, and that's the bird. She's first mate around here.

[Ship won't be so empty anymore, not with him around! Tuck follows Marvelous out and around and ohhh, this is nice!]

Ohh, yeah. [He grins, looking around.] This is way nicer than I used to have. We could be eating good here, depending on what we find in the Pile.

[Not to leave Navi out, he waves to her, too.] Hey, Navi.

Oh, he's polite! Unlike some people!

[ Marvelous makes a childish face at her. ]

Unlike some people, she says.

[ He turns back to Tuck, one hand on the fridge's handle. ]

I've been checkin' on the Pile every couple'a days, collectin' what I can. Not a huge spread, but better than nothing. And two sets of eyes'll probably help us out.

[ He doesn't tug the fridge open, but if Tuck opened it he'd find a small variety of meat and a couple of tupperwares full of what looks like stew. Maybe Marvelous isn't as hopeless a cook as he acts like? The rest of the kitchen is fairly well-stocked, mostly with non-perishables, vegetables (mostly foraged), and spices that clearly haven't been touched by Marvelous, judging by the fact that they're well-organized and well-maintained. ]

[Oh, these two are gonna be a riot. He's hoping first impressions will last. If they do, then he will love it here, despite the craziness of this place.]

Don't think you have to worry about that. I'm used to having to pull my own weight back home. [The thought of the others he'd left behind puts a falter in his smile, but he quickly turns and shifts the pack on his shoulder onto a nearby counter to set out its contents. Not much more than a few cans of greens and a can opener he'd managed to find hidden under what looked to have once been a shelving unit. Lucky find, that one. As he deals out his own collection, he looks over at Marvelous's.] Herbs and spices? Now we're talkin'. I love playing with those.

[ Don't worry, Tuck, they're on all week. ]

Sounds like you know plenty about bein' a pirate already, then. Anything in here's up for grabs--I don't believe in a private food collection, you know?

[ Marvelous, that's because your philosophy is 'what's yours is mine, and what's mine is mine'. ]

Anyway, you go ahead and rearrange the place if you want. I'm gonna take a nap.

[He turns back to sorting his own supply, shaking his head.] Something like that.

[And at mention that Marvelous is getting a nap, he turns back and waves his hand to shoo the other off.] Oh, no, don't let me keep you. I'll be right in here if you need anything. Thanks again for the place though. I really appreciate it, man.

[ While the captain's away, the bird will play, Marvelous. As Marvelous sweeps out of the kitchen to collapse in his chair, Navi hops from the fridge-top to a countertop. ]

Don't worry about noise, he can sleep through a hurricane!

[ Was that a wink? The world will never know, as the bird pops up and flies away. ]

It's been...rough. But it helps when some of the robots're your friends, you know?

I'm not saying they're all bad. I wouldn't mind befriending a few, I just... don't like to be helpless.
