[Video] - backdated around three days
[Because of this. Jetfire is patient enough to have dragged it out this long, both because he would rather either Starscream did the right thing, or he managed to get out himself, but as he hasn't...
Well.
Have Jetfire looking impressively blank as he leans against the workbench in his lab, arms folded over his chest.]
... If someone [since the mech who should be doing it isn't doing it] could help me unlock the door to my lab, I'd be... grateful.
[Briefly, the thin line of his lips tighten slightly and then he just sighs, static loud, before rubbing a hand over his faceplates.]
If you can do it without destroying the door, that would be preferable, but if not, I'll deal with it then.
[Have some coordinates to a building on a terrace on Liege's mountain.]

But I'm doing it myself, considering he did it because he thought it was best... for me. Even if it's a highly stupid and unacceptable way of doing it.
[Given the hints concerning Tarn that has been flying around, etc, Jetfire will lock this soon if he ends up needing to explain closer... Which he can see that he might have to.]

[If Perceptor had eyebrows to raise...]
Come again? I daresay I just heard you say "because he thought it best"?

Completely and inexplicably enmeshed.]
He hasn't quite made me that angry, and well... I wouldn't either way, unless it was necessary.
And yes, I did say that. [Jetfire drags a hand down his faceplates again and leans back against the work benchs behind him.]
Starscream and I knew each other for thousands of vorns before the war, and even if the war in the end brought our differences to a head, I'd help him if he needed it even if I was angry at him... Worse than merely knocking me unconcious because he doesn't want me to put myself at risk.
We're... ah. Involved. Mostly due to have things have happened in the last... year, but he's been important since long before the war started.
[Simplest way of explaining it, right? Not really, but it's quicker than the longer explanation. He'll pull up the "I was a Decepticon for a while" as part of the explanation if he has to do it.
He's also expecting some sort of angry backlash... The Keep and Ironhide's reaction comes to mind.]

[He's still visible, though, and occasionally nodding.]
[At least until the word... involved.]
[Then his head jerks up so fast he smashes the back of his helm against the light over his table.]
I'm... sorry? You're what?

Involved.
In a much more intimate way than one would be as friends.
[Because really, to be honest they've always been "involved". That's just how their sort of friendship was, especially with... er, Starscream as he was, so it was easier to define it like that.]

[That's about the most lucid question he can ask right now, which, considering Perceptor, says something.]
[He knew the Jetfire of his world worked with Starscream, knew they were on the research station Megatron commandeered, but there his understanding ends.]

[Folding one arm above the other and resting his chin in the palm of the upper hand, Jetfire shrugs slightly.]
Perceptor, even if we weren't intimately involved, I would still be dealing reasonably closely with Starscream. I just have the added hope that I can maybe curb some of his more outrageous plans of his, or that he might get into... Especially as this isn't a situation normal in our own reality.

I would argue that being intimate with Starscream, as you've just said, displays many of the traits commonly associated with madness.
Unless, of course, there is something you're not telling me about this situation, and the Starscream of your world is not, in fact, a treasonous coward with designs on Megatron's armies.

[Jetfire shrugs, and his expression blanks out a bit, thoughtful.]
He's that, obviously. But anyone who would attempt to stand in Megatron's way, and continue to do so, I wouldn't necessarily say they're necessarily cowardly. He's also prickly, vain, impossibly argumentative has a superiority complex and can keep a grudge if he thinks he's been wronged for practically forever. But even so, given those things...
[There's, by now, a small smile on Jetfire's lips.]
He's brilliant and innovative, an interesting conversational partner and when not letting his superiority complex getting in the way, has reasonably insightful and sometimes very sharp commentary on situations, scientific or otherwise, and I know him well enough to know he's still going to surprise me.
... And even if he just decided locking me in the lab was a suitable response to what I told him, and I'd prefer he show he cares in another way... He's not hopeless and he does have a core of conscience, which I'm somewhat surprised to have seen proof of again recently.
[Jetfire refocuses on Perceptor with another tiny shrug, more like a faint shifting of his shoulders. No, he wasn't going to deny Starscream's faults, but that wasn't all the Seeker was.]
video; - locked now
Or, you're simply in denial about his true nature.
[Short, and to the point, for once. Fondness in this situation is clearly a step in the wrong direction.]
video; - locked now
I know all his faults, Perceptor. I've seen them firsthand, been subjected to most of them, and I've seen him change from a sharp and hard-to-deal-with individual to the extreme of murderous with no care at all but his own goals, which, no, he wasn't until later, and then... softening a bit again.
I know both him and the Decepticons' goals, and I left when I realised things had gone too far.
[He's not laughing any more, just... staring at the floor, optics dim.]
video; - locked now
[He says the word as if it were dirty:] ... softened ... to murderous once more.
[Fortunately, the Jetfire he's familiar with had a similar incident with defecting. That barely seems to register.]

[Spreading his hands, Jetfire's not sure if he should be amused or not at the way Perceptor said "softened".]
And he could just have left Bumblebee where he was, no one would have known. I had no way of enforcing what I was asking as the situation was... dire.
[Until you ask him how long he was a Decepticon! Then it'll look a lot more incriminating...]
