[Video] [Transmission from Solian Temple] - Fifth Offense

Right, so. I hear we have a dance comin' up, and everybody needs formal wear for it. I also know that fabrics don't stand up well to all of us, f'r various reasons.

[Such as being too pointy, like him!]

So, figured I could I could assist with formal wear in some capacity. Been working on a few designs for hats, and if you'd prefer walking canes, just have t'tell me what design you'd like f'r the handle. Or, let me surprise you~

[He shifts the camera to show a pair of hats - one made of dull grey iron with leather cording, run through brushed steel grommets, the other made of copper, with accents made of bronze and thin iron 'feathers'.]

If you've got some other accessory you're in the mood for, or a different hat, let me know, and I'll see what I c'n do to help you out. These're just a sample, after all. Though if you're looking f'r a hat, I'll uh. Need your head size, since we ain't all exactly the same sizes here.

Formal wear. It's decorative items you wear or carry that're a symbol of one's status. Mostly a human thing, where I'm from. [Barricade had way too long to learn the ins and outs of this sort of thing. Fortunately or un-.] As for the dance. Well, in this case it's a social function were people gather to enjoy one another's company without combat breaking out. Dance in most other cases refers to ground-based repetitive movements in rhythm with music.

[He is the master of definitions by now, having gotten used to explaining Terran terms to Cybertronians that haven't been around Earth.]

[Thundercracker had been around Earth for a several years before coming here . . . but the amount of knowledge of Terran ways he's acquired in that time is pretty much limited to things from The Discovery Channel or the History Channel when he was bored enough to turn to human television for an escape from the monotony of waiting between raids.]

[He gets a bit of a confident grin on his face.] I have symbols of my status. They're just not solely decorative. [His wing flick as he says it.]

Hm . . . social function, huh? Could be interesting, I suppose.

[He chuckles.]

More a class-based status. They mean you've got enough funds to waste money on frivolous things, like hats and jewelry and such. [And maybe crowns and capes, not that he would know to mention that.] And that's what the organizers are looking for. Luckily, that sorta thing is a whole lot easier around here where currency is not an issue.

You oughta come. Good way t'meet other folks, get some stress out.

["Placing myself in a room full of strangers and possible enemies is hardly a way to destress" - he doesn't say as much, though the grimace that crosses his faceplates for an instant might hint enough. He vents a sigh.]

I suppose. Couldn't hurt to meet more of our fellow refugees.

What exactly does one do at one of these events?

Not much for rooms fulla strangers, I take it? [Faces say a lot for him. Barricade smiles a little, not unkindly.] Definitely wouldn't be bad to get to know some of 'em, though.

Parties're usually about meeting folks, having fun with the ones you know and getting to know the ones you don't. There's usually drinking and refreshments, and dancing. The kind I mentioned; if you want I'd be happy t'show you a few steps.

A few steps? ["Of what?" . . . Give him a moment – this is all so far out of his norm, it's kind of like talking to a fish.] Of dancing? Sure, I guess. Why not?

Figure I might as well offer. Y'seem more used to airframe customs than those of us grounders, and we'll all be pretty grounded indoors.

[He manages to bite back a comment about "groundpounders" – the old contempt still rears up at him now and then. He's been making concerted efforts to squelch it since getting here . . . if for no other reason than he doesn't want to get slagged for saying something to "the wrong mech" or some such. ~~Not to mention that most of his friends here now are grounders, he's just gotten somewhat used to overlooking that part when it's not outright mentioned.~~]

That's an understatement, I'm sure. All right . . . when do you want to meet? And where?

[He wouldn't exactly be surprised by that, really. He'd kept up his old contempt for fliers even when several of them kept saving his aft... though he'd learned to keep it quiet, as much as possible. Barricade had given up on those distinctions anyway; mechs changed too much in his timestream to openly mock airframes.]

How's tomorrow sound? As f'r the place... maybe lakeside, around here?

[He sends coordinates to a spot in view of the lake but not so close that water would be an issue.]

[The next day, on time, Thundercracker makes his way out to the spot, flying high overhead until he's near the area, then dropping altitude and transforming last minute to land lightly on his feet. He's not even showing off – it's just habit. He looks around for the grounder, naturally wary but mostly just . . . curious.]

[Barricade shows up shortly after Thundercracker does, shifting out of car mode as he drives up and skidding on his feet the last little way. He smiles up at the airframe.]

Thundercracker, I presume?

[The Seeker nods.] Barricade.

So . . . how do we do this?

["Fish out of water", anyone?]

Well. First off. You got a date in mind y'wanna dance with?

[Because partner - that he teaches - and solo are two different animals.]

Ah . . . well, Melan is going to be meeting me there. I don't know if we'll dance, though. He's not human, but he's human-sized.

[Is it possible for people of two such vastly different sizes to do something such as dance together? Thundercracker's not so sure, now that Barricade asks.]

I've danced with humans before, myself. Not my body, a'course, but my holoform. Principle is similar, if you have one about that size.

[And for mechs with sensors in their holoform, it's the next best thing and no one accidentally gets stepped on.]

Hollow form? I'm afraid I don't follow.

[ooc: LOL the idea of holo-forms is a much newer idea than G1. I /love/ it and it makes sense...but TC doesn't have one, no one in G1 does. Closest thing was in the old Marvel comics, Wheeljack invented and installed in himself and a few others...basically blow-up dolls that came out of the driver's seat so it wasn't OBVIOUS that the cars were driving themselves. There was /some/ robotic animation in them, like a spring-loaded arm that could snap out to offer a credit card or money as needed. Funnily enough, a gas attendant or toll booth operator would give them odd looks, think the behavior was off...but never actually realize it was a DOLL. Oh, 80's, I miss you. XD;;;]

They're holograms that look like humans. Help disguise the fact that we don't actually have drivers, when we're on Earth. They also fit into human-sized buildings a touch better than we do. Though, depending on if they're hard light or not, it can be a touch... unreliable, as far as shaking hands and whatnot. I'm guessing you don't have one, then?

[Barricade is more curious than anything, really.]

Ah . . . no. Sounds handy, though. Who installed yours? And how does that work? How are you able to operate through a holo-image and not just project it? Do you have a sensor net you can deploy with it?

[He's catching himself wondering if he could get one, if only for the sake of interest.]

It can be. I was formatted with mine, though someone upgraded it later to be semi-solid. Just have to focus on activating it and what you want to project through it.

[Which he demonstrates - and then throws his voice into it, filtered to be devoid of the usual metallic undercurrent.]

I never mapped a sensornet to mine, personally. I know other mechs that have, though. And operating through it is kinda like... throwing your mind into a construct. Moving a wireframe. Helps if you can focus yourself on more than one thing at a time.

[He waves one hand, while his holoform waves the opposite one.]

[Thundercracker manages to suppress a mild flinch of surprise when Barricade's voice suddenly comes from way down in the little holographic fleshling.]

I can see where that'd be useful. Do you know of anyone here who could build and install a mod like that?

[Barricade grins, flicking the hologram off before continuing.]

I do, in fact. You're looking at him. I'll have to pick up the supplies but it's an easy upgrade, even with the modifications another mech made to it.
