[Video | Junk Pile, yet again]

[Lyra had much more important things to do rather than go visit some temple where she was apparently supposed to live now. She had an alethiometer to find and wasn't about to leave the junk pile until she did. The end result was the little girl setting up a junk-made lean to for herself and Pan, camping out at night and searching through the day.

It had to be somewhere.

Settling down with some food she'd managed to get while Pan continued searching, Lyra turned on her comm unit, figurin she might as well see what was going on. And ask if anyone else had found it.]

Got a question for all you. I'm looking for something real important. It kinda looks like a compass but with pictures on it. I know I had it when I jumped trough the window after my father so if one of you has it you best give it back.

[She glares a bit to make her point before glancing off screen to check on Pan.]

Anything?

Nothing yet. At least not what we're lookin for. There's so much weird stuff here, Lyra!

[The little girl grinned, her daemon's excitement and curiosity infectious.]

Oh. Right. So...can anyone tell me what this thing means? Which temple or whotever.

[She pushes the sleeve of her shirt up some to show off Liege's glyph.]

Still not sure where it's supposed to take me.

You bein' scared isn't what I'm worried about. More worried about the things that like to go pokin' around out there too.

I got Pan with me if anything happens. You ain't gotta worry about us...I appreciate it though.

Unless he turns into a big friggin' cannon, then yeah, I gotta worry. Little bit, anyways.

The bugs around here are bigger than I am.

L-Lyra maybe we should go--

[Lyra cut Pan off with a sharp look, the beagle hunkering down a bit.]

We ain't giving up till we find it, Pan!

Hng. Fine then. Sit tight.

[Incoming soldier bot, Lyra.]

[Ready and waiting.

She's perched on a small pile of junk waiting for him as Pan continues the search, elbows propped on her knees as she rests her chin in her hands.]

[And up rolls the tank-van, transforming as he comes nearer, and peering around for her.]

[Upon spotting the child, he pauses a few feet away, giving her a little nod.]

All right. Keep on lookin' then.

I'll watch for bugs.

[She watches the weird vehicle thing approaching, only startling a little bit when it changes into the familiar form of Ironhide.

So weird. So so weird.

Lyra stands and dusts herself off with a bit of a huff, hands resting on her hips for a moment.]

Why are you so worried about bugs anyway?

[She starts to climb down off her pile of junk then, not caring about how dirty she's getting as she makes her way over to Pan.]

They're just bugs.

Eh. These bugs are different.

[He watches her crawl around. If she needs a hand, he'll give her one, but the kid seems to know what she's doing.]

Bigger than I am. Made out of metal and acid... Pop out of the ground like a bunch of angry pistons.

[He makes a punch in the air, as if pantomiming said ground-popping.]

Something bigger than you? .....That ain't something I want to see.

[The robots were big enough as it was and Lyra was still trying to adjust to them; she didn't need something bigger popping up and making itself known right now.

At least not yet.

Huffing some as her search turned up empty, she moved on to another pile as Pan started to sort of dig into one beside her, tail lashing about in the air.]

You seem like you could fight them off though.

Way bigger.

[Which is why he's out here. Mostly. It also feels a little like he's doing bodyguard work again, something familiar.]

[And familiar is good.]

[When she moves on, he follows for a step or two. He lets her keep her own space, but stays close enough to help -- in case something nasty really does show up.]

That's why I'm here. Took a few down last time they showed up... figured I could always do it again.

[Lyra straightens up, wiping her hands on her dress without a second thought.

Not like she cared much about the dress anyway. At least her winter coat was still nice. And maybe she could find some real clothes later.]

I appreciate it, even if I'm not sure I believe you when you say there are things bigger than you.

[She's teasing, for the most part, moving over to pull Pan out of the junk he'd accidentally gotten himself buried under, wincing a bit herself as he whimpers at her.]

You have to be careful, Pan.

Yeah? Just wait 'til one of the FirstForged get all their wires in a knot... you'll see.

[Clothes are still sort of a weird concept to him, so he says nothing when she gets hers all messy.]

[What does get his attention is the wincing and the rest.]

You two okay?

Huh? Oh--yeah, we're fine. Pan got hurt, so I feel it.

Since we're connected.

[Lyra kisses the beagle's head before setting him down again, the canine lingering at her side for a moment before starting the search again.]

I keep hearing about the FirstForged but I dunno wot to think about them. One of them said I belonged to him? I hate when people say that. I ain't no one's property.

Huh. Right.

[There's something that'll take getting used to.]

[He rubs at his chin, "exhaling" slowly.]

They bicker like a bunch of politicians in a senate, then get all bug-optic when we go off and do what we got to, because they weren't paying no attention.

They can say all they want, my opinion. Only one I belong to is Prime.

[Which means, she's free to feel the same, in Ironhide-speak.]

[Way to go, Ironhide. You've opened a can of worms now because she's going to follow in your footsteps.]

Glad to hear you feel the same.

[She even gives you a small grin for that one before her look turns thoughtful.]

Who's Prime?

[He doesn't see anything wrong with it, honestly.]

Yeah, decked one of 'em once.

Hm.

Sounds like what John Fa kind of is to me, I guess. He's the leader of the gyptians and has always been kind to me. He's really smart too.

[She starts to climb up a pile of junk, sliding a few times but managing it all the same.]

[She pauses in what she's doing to look over at him, as does Pan.]

They're..um...what's the word..

Thank you, Pan, darling. Yes, nomads. Ain't got real houses or anything. They live on boats and travel all over! Most people don't like them but I do. They're always really nice to me.

... Huh.

And this one you're talkin' about. He took you on?

[He's trying to see if he follows this. Living on a boat... what's a boat.]

He did, yeah. Taught me how to read my alethiometer and protected me. Pan and me owe him a lot.
