video || Trion's Lake

[Here we have the police bird in his natural habitat. Standing by the lake in Alpha Trion's sector. He looks rather pensive and generally more upset than he usually does.]

I --

[And before he can explain himself, he catches sight of his reflection in the lake. Scrawled on the panes of his left wing are the words "SPACE FOR RENT". On the other wing, in equally bold, obnoxious writing is "APRIL FOOLS".]

[He stares. And then drops the Link in an effort to scrub the writing off with his bare hands, twisting around into a veritable knot of unhappy ninja robot.]

[Unfortunately, all this does is give the viewer a good view of the back side of each wing, on which is written ""POWER JOE WAS HERE :D". One word per wing pane.]

[And it's then, in a fit of avian frustration, Kagerou has the most mature response to life there ever was. He lifts the nearest heavy rock and throws it, as hard as he can, shouting:]

I hate this place!

Maybe he doesn't know that? I can't say, I never met him.

I promise I will be here soon. Just... sit down, maybe?

You are sure you don't need a medic?

He should. He's been here long enough.

I'm fine. I just... [aaaaand he throws another rock.]

[He just needs to do something.]

Since when has he been there? I never heard of him.

[Melan frowns, slightly worried by the robot's anger. How do you react? What do you do?]

Hm... Once you are cleaned up, would you like to go for a flight? I would like some compagny during my patrol. If it doesn't bother you too much, that's it.

... Months. Something like it.

[He's never really been this angry before. What does he even do with this anger?]

I ...

[Deep "breaths."]

Yes. Flying... would be good.

Hm. I will keep an eye out for him.

[Well the one and only time Melan has been angry, he has destroyed his enemy. It might not be a good idea here.]

I would love to have someone to fly with. Maybe we could spar a little as well? I never fought someone like you.

I'll deal with him. When I see him.

[Kagerou doesn't typically deal with his emotions well, either. They get the best of him, more often than not.]

You... you want to spar with me?

[... no one has ever wanted to do that with him since Shadowmaru.]

[Melan let the matter of Power Joe drop, but he would keep an eye on that guy. Just to be sure.]

Well, yes. People like us often say more with their blades than with their words. I would be honored if you accepted: you seem to be quite a warrior.

I...

[Well, he's surprised enough to forget how angry he was. For a moment.]

... Yes. I'd like that.

Good. [Matter settled, once again!]

I will be here soon with the cloth. I will get that paint off you soon.

And then we can fly and fight.

Yes... I.

I'll be here.

[Soon enough, Melan zooms above Kagerou's head to land a few meters away. The robot's paintjob still shows some traces of paint, and of course the writing on his wings is still here.]

I am here.

[The Knight takes a second to seize the task wainting for him.]

Could you... stand still, please? Near the water?

[The Monomakia may be bigger than most human, but he stays way smaller than the AI. He won't be able to wash it all in one go, even if he managed to find not only five cloths but some soap as well.]

[He tenses automatically, when something flies over, but once scans reveal who it is... and once Melan speaks, he relaxes. Yes, he's still angry, but less apt to snap.]

I can.

[And he shuffles a little nearer to the lake, before standing perfectly still.]

[... Water is a little frightening, even now.]

[The robot is still somewhat too tense for the Knight's liking, but you can't exactly force someone to relax on demand, right?]

[Instead, Melan set to work with his usual seriousness, first working on the writing on the red and white wings. The paint had dried, and once again the Monomakia regretted not having hands, as nails would have no doubt helped.]

[Most of his work is made in absolute silence: Melan is not exactly yalkative at the best of time, and Kagerou is more or less the same. Well at least the wings are free of paint, the Knight came to float in front of the robot's face.]

Your wings are clean. Do you want me to take care of your front as well? I don't mind.

[He stays hunched and tensed... until the cleaning actually starts. Then he can't help it. His head droops, and he "exhales" -- a long cycle of warm air. That... feels good. Really good.]

[He's relaxing, despite himself. He had no idea his wings would do that...]

[He doesn't even realized Melan has moved until he's in front of him, speaking.]

I...

If you want.

[Melan hadn't expected his washing to actually calm the robot down, but he wasn't about to complain about the unexpected side-effect. He didn't like the angry Kagerou, and prefered the calm, gentle one.]

Very well. Just a second.

[His pieces of cloth had all been used to clean the wings, and Melan had no other choice that hastily rince them in the water of the lake. The Knight frowned lightly as they didn't come out as clean as he would have liked, but in the end, he had no other choice than use them anyway.]

[He floated back to his friend and began to meticulously wash the remaining traces of paint. The GunSwordmen were othing if serious when they worked, even on something as simple as washing, and soon the robot was sparkling clean. There. If he was one to gloat, Melan would no doubt boasting about a job well done right now. Since he is not, he simply floated away.]

Are you feeling better now?

[He hadn't known his wings were sensitive like that, either. The only one who had ever... tended to them... was Shadowmaru. And he'd always assumed his fellow ninja's presence was the calming part.]

[His optic dims, eventually letting the shutters droop down, like eyelids. It shouldn't be this relaxing. Simple touch shouldn't dissolve the anger so easily...]

[But it does.]

[He doesn't even look up until it stops, and he blinks, as if surprised.]

It... yes. It does feel better.

[Well, at least Kagerou was relaxed now. Mission accomplished. Melan didn't exactly know what he had done to make the anger disappear, but he wasn't picky. Kagerou was back to normal, so everything was fine.]

[He kept the information wings=sensitive somewhere in his head though. It could be useful again.]

I am glad. [The Knight floated down to gather his things, looking up at his big friend with a slight smile.] We could do that again, if you want to. It's... relaxing.

[Thinking of something else than the fact he was alone on an unknown planet without the love of his life was a welcome distraction, after all.]

I will just put that away and then we can go patrol, if that's alright with you?

... You would want to? Really?

[It's such a startling idea, he doesn't know how to process it. Other people offering to do things for him is such a foreign concept.]

Yes, that's fine. I'll... I'll wait here.

Of course. I said so.

[Melan couldn't fanthom why someone would say something and not do it in the end. He said he wanted to, so he wanted to. Period.]

I will be quick, I promise.

[And with that, Melan "whoosh"ed away.]

Then... I'd like that, I think.

[He nods, and remains standing still, looking at the water, and waiting.]
