[He's taking note of the numbers, and there's something he's noticed.]

We're getting more biologicals. Do we have any numbers on resource usage?

[Like, y'know, clean water and food? Someone's already lived through starvation and does not fancy having another go.]

True. While it's not the same, synthesised energon doesn't taste exactly the like natural thing, and some, of course, were hard-pressed to consume it.

[Shaking his helm and folding his arms, he briefly thought about the first time he'd had to drink the synthesised energon... it had seemed very bland, flat, almost, from the natural kind. Then he straightened and nodded.]

I believe so yes. Synthesised like that, even if it's organic and thus edible for any of you who need that type of food, it would undoubtedly be reasonably easy to control how long the food could remain fresh.

Nice to see some things haven't changed between worlds.

[Awful rations. Well, at least they're so unpalatable you don't eat up all your food right away.]

Freeze-drying also works well for preserving food, but water would still be an issue.

[That makes Jetfire chuckle and nod, before he frowns thoughtfully.]

Well, there's been no evidence of the lake drying up anytime soon, even, I would surmise, with a greater pressure of use upon it. And wouldn't other chemicals be capable of freeze-drying food as well? If so, that ought to be relatively simple to provide.

[Six holds his hands up slightly in surrender.] That's out of my field. I know about freeze-drying but none of the specifics.

Mm, yes. I can't say I am overly knowledgeable in it either, but Skyfire might know... and we have the fruit to experiment on, given how much yield it gives in such a short time, so if nothing else, we could find out.

[He shrugs.]

At some later point, with more of us capable and modified as I have been... or ships modified for it, and more prepared, we could probably do flights to other planets that could have edible organic foodstuff.

A good goal for the future, but starting with little steps now is my primary concern. Ships in the future won't do us much good if the food supply gets burned out long before then.

The food supply is so low, then, that you could work through it within a year?

[If that was true, at least in the manner of variable foodstuffs since the fruit wouldn't run out, that was, indeed, not good at all.]

Since otherwise I believe we could probably get Skyfire modifications in a vein similar to mine within a time-frame like that, and he possess a shuttle altmode.

[And thus capable of carrying far more than Jetfire.]

[Six shook his head.] No, but I don't like the idea of not having a primary food source that we can control with only some stored away for emergencies. I'd rather have a good portion of the food under our control with what the Lambda drops as supplementary or put away in storage. We have more than enough now, but the future isn't always so easy to predict and starving to death is not how I'd like to die.

Point. The fruit should last indefinitely with the abundance and the quick growth-pattern, but I understand that wouldn't necessarily be enough given organics' need.

[How troublesome, the way the optimal nutritional set-up needs to be varied.]

Besides that, however, unfortunately most obvioiusly is, as you've pointed out, from the Lambda... and I'm unsure we can do much else currently, until something drops through that is renewable, or we can get reliable trips to other planets with edible foodstuff.

[He says it with a frown and a shake of his helm, folding his arms over his chestplates.]

Unless the Lambda starts dropping in livestock, we might want to start looking outside the immediate area for potential protein.

... Ah. Well. Unfortunately, I believe the only actual organic-suitable soil and water can presently be found within the Haven, in Alpha Trion's quadrant.

[The small smile is definitely apologetic, and Jetfire shrugs slightly.]

Cybertron in general, and this one as well, doesn't actually have anything in the way of suitable environment for organic life, and water usually is either nonexistent or rare.

Either the Lambda needs to drop some edible aquatic creature that could be planted in the lake, or perhaps an animal that could be kept for its meat, or we need to go off-planet for that.

[Sooooooo basically his suggestion. However, he just nodded.]

If we can get a solid plant food source to supplement what the Lambda drops, we should be all right until we can go off-planet to look for meat.

Indeed. Well... I believe there's two already, which isn't a lot, admittedly, but something; the fruit and, unless those small birds one of the human children keeps aren't used for food at all, those as well.

Small birds? Can you describe them?

[Because, well, everything's small compared to you Cybertronians.]

I can probably do a little better than that... [Because honestly, while he might have enough of an image of them from memory, describing them would probably end up not making them sound like chickens...

More than useful enough. Those are chickens. That'll definitely be a help if their owner is willing to trade eggs for other goods.

I unfortunately have no idea who the owner might be, so you might want to inquire about that... otherwise, I'm pleased to have been able to render some assistance.
