The Firstforged claim they're some kind of gods. What an exaggeration that is.

[Thank you, Kagerou. And don't you sound bitter today. Granted, he's been bitter about all this since Perceptor vanished... but recently, everything has sort of come to a head. He can't keep it down anymore.]

They want us to build. They want us to run their world, and behave like peaceable little children.

And what do we get in return?

Murdered. Lied to. Misdirected. Our work ruined. Criminals running amok. Empty promises.

[As he says the last words, his fingers clench around his arm, around the Glyph.]

They want us to trust them -- but these Firstforged are nothing like they say they are. They tell us they can't control who leaves and who stays, but, then they turn around and tell us we're safe with their markings! They don't care one bit, what happens to us! If they did...

[If they did, I would be able to do what I was promised I could...]

[His hand lifts, revealing the very elaborate, intricate Glyph -- his status is showing, and boy does he look unhappy about it.]

If their reward for our service is loss and death, I would rather not have their mark at all!

[Those large green eyes soften, fiddling with her scarf.]

Look, sometimes bad things happen, and there's nothing you can do about them. But the people who are lost...they wouldn't want you to be like this, would they?

Would they want to see you give up? To choose death over continuing on in their memory?

[It's a familiar subject.]

They're all gone, Kay. I tried to...

[He lowers his head.]

[With the whole "initiate" thing. He told her everything about it -- no one else.]

I don't know what else to do. I thought they would all be safe -- they're all alive and I'm... not.

[He's rambling, but, for her sake, he's trying to hold his thoughts together. It's not very effective.]

[It almost sounds like...she's the adult one here. Which is literally true, but often times the roles were reversed.]

You can't think someone's invincible. But you can't live knowing they're not.

And you're just as alive as I am, Kagerou. I'm saying that right now, because you are.

Then... what am I supposed to think? What are any of us supposed to think?

[He's including Kay in that question. He never wants her to feel as he does now.]

[He looks away for a second.]

Would you think less of me... if I told you I was afraid?

We just keep going, Kagerou. We carry on what the other guys couldn't. And just hope they made it home safe.

[There's a small smile]

Is that what you're worried about? That I'll think less of you?

No one else seems to think they're safe.

... no.

I'm worried... one day you won't be here, when I wake up.

...oh Kagerou.

That's not going to happen, okay? I promise.

We're going home together.

[He just nods a little.]

[This girl -- she feels like the end. Like all there is. Part of him knows it's not true, but all the same. The things they've been through, the promises they've made...]

[He can't lose her and still be whole. No more than he can lose his memories.]

You've written that down. Haven't you? That promise...

[She nods in return.

There was no doubt about it--Kagerou was her dad. And she wouldn't lose her dad a second time.]

You bet I did. That means it can't be broken no matter how hard we try.

... I trust you, Kay.

We'll go. Together. They won't part us.

That's right. I'm not losing a dad again.

I won't let that happen to you, either.

I'll make this worth something... for you.
