[ So waking up happened. It was absolutely disorienting, and let Shepard tell you, she's already had a few of those 'out-of-body' experiences. Spoiler alert; every single one of them sucked. Flashbacks of dying weren't pleasant either; it took some concentration and a few deep breaths to remind her that all that was long since past. Getting out of the temple was a side quest in itself, but she's finally out in the open, hoping the lack of concrete and stone and whatever else the literal monument was made out of wouldn't mess with her frequencies.

She's pleasantly surprised, her Omni-tool is already adjusted to the frequency change. Completely recalibrated to the Link. Her expression wavers between suspicion and being impressed, and a few screens later, she's in the system. Her voice crackles for a moment as the audio syncs to the video. Hey, it's a Shepard. Her tone is rather cynical, despite her situation. She might still be in some disbelief at what she's been previously told. ]

So I'm not the only refugee then? Who else exactly is here?

[ She'd tell you who she is if she knew whether or not titles applied here. Shep's rather hesitant, after all, you never know who could be watching. ]

Importance? Survival, at least for most of us. Us organic have a bit of the short end of the stick here, there isn't a lot of ground to grow food so we have to find a lot in the Junk pile, but we have a common group pantry that we keep extra stuff we find in. You don't have to give up what you find, but it benefits everyone, and they will barter for it from you, and you can barter for stuff that's in there.

Then there are the attacks from stuff outside Haven, monsters mostly. Sometimes things happen that are worse, one time people showed up without the glyphs, which protect us from the badlands, and they were okay for a bit, but then they went crazy and even killed people, cause most people didn't want to think their friends would hurt them.

[ Well, there you have it; she's as smart as she looks. ]

Then I think I'd like the list in order of importance.

Surviving is one thing scavenging is another.

What glyphs?

[ She hasn't exactly taken her armor off yet. ]

Survival, which can include scavenging, fighting, politics... We are making a society so that we aren't just a group of people living in the same place, we want to be more then that.

You woke up in a temple, right? Then you have a Glyph, it's on your shoulder. [Miko shows hers, a vivid blue glyph with a magenta outline.] They are kind of like a tattoo, but it would be more accurate to say the mark is on every part of you that makes you you, if you believe in souls and such, that's included. The color and shape show which of the First Forged you have ended up with, but that can change, mine's become more blue, and the magenta showed up one day. Some of the First Forged seem to care a lot and be very invested in all refugees, others just the ones with their mark, and I think some don't care for us refugees at all.

I'd like to think it gets easier after surviving, settling might be the word you're looking for.

[ She unconsciously looks at her shoulder, still clad in her life support suit. ]

I haven't looked.

So the First Forged, are they leaders? Not in the literal way, but....more like lords of a settlement. Or somewhere around there.

[She shrugs, all of it seems about the same to her, settling and surviving and scavenging, they all mean being alive and making their lives as easy as they could.]

Well fortunately if you were in a temple, you had a glyph, so you are okay.

Kind of? This planet specifically belongs to them, they were here before the lambda started bringing in refugees. They get involved somewhat, but mostly let us take care of our selves as far as laws go.

So there aren't any hard feelings there for suddenly 'showing up' one day.

That's not too bad, I suppose.

Not that I know of. Not like we really have a choice, and I think they get that, so... it's not as bad as it could be.

Anyone who gets that far in competency doesn't have a beef with me.

And... a lot of people have gone away. We don't know why, but suddenly people will head into the Badlands, sometimes they come back, but they can't remember what happened or why they left. Others just don't come back.
