[video] Edge of Solus' quadrant, crystal tree forest

Since the Firstforged are leaving, unknown for how long, I was thinking we might want to patrol more consistently towards the borders of Haven, especially in the direction of the Badlands.

[She needs some distraction and she's been considering bringing this up since she talked to Solus either way.]

Where, and how far, do the police force patrol? Though, anyone who can and feel like it should probably assist, but coordination would probably make it more effective. So far I've kept it mostly around the edge of Solus Prime's outer border.

[Elita walks as she speaks, looking more at the now rather impressively large crystal "trees" around her than the screen, but not just for admiring them - rather looking for something.]

Also, would anyone be capable of making some form of alarms we could put around the edges? Simple motion-detection ones might be useful enough, but I was thinking of something that might be able to detect the type of energy the Badlands contain.

[Nothing she can do, but hopefully someone else would be - or could try to.]

Set patterns help activate it. [She nods, then tilts her helm.] I assume it consists of something. Some form of energy?

[ why all these technical questions!?!? ]

I dunno. Probably. Like a lot of things, I just sort of picked it up without really learning much about it.

[Sorry, Sora. At least she's not even more probing?]

Interesting... [She's a bit surprised, actually, but she can also see Sora doesn't precisely have an easy time to explain, so a chuckle slips out.]

I'm sorry. This isn't something I've ever seen or heard before, so I was curious.

Heh. It's fine. I kinda wish I had a better way of explaining it.

Maybe if things start working right, I can show you instead.

I'd like that. [Have a smile, Sora.] While it might not make it easier to understand, I'm curious... I doubt it's similar to what manipulation of my own energy I am capable of, but I'd still like to see it.

[a tilt of her helm.] And what you can do with it, too.

Manipulation of energy?

Our sparks. [ Since she's holding her arm far enough away to give a bust view of her, she just raises her other hand to brush her chestplates.]

There's a particular martial arts discipline where, if you know how, you can use the energy of your own spark to assist. If the energy you use with your magic is from you it'd be very similar.

Sparks... [ is that some kind of force? power? Sora isn't really sure... a lot of the things that people talk about around here are new concepts for him. but hey. willing to learn. that counts for something, right? ]

Oh wow. And you can still do that right now?

[The question in that repeat is obvious, and Elita nods.]

What makes us what we are. Take the spark out and you would merely have a lifeless shell... or a drone. [She grimaces shortly. Or something humans might recognise as zombies.]

And yes. Possibly because it's part of me, and the method needed to channel it relies on my knowledge and chassis, not additional help or force... But it's hard to tell. The Lambda may be what interferes with your ability to use your magic, maybe?

Kinda like what we call a heart where I'm from.

[ and it's a neat idea. same things, different words for them. just further proves to him that everyone's pretty much the same where it counts. ]

I'm sure it'll sort itself out. I managed for a long time without using it, so I can wait a little longer. Sounds pretty cool though, to know how stuff works like that.

Isn't... a heart a physical organ in organic bodies? [While she can understand that he's talking metaphorical similarity and may mean something else, she's still pretty sure a heart is an actual organ, not... something else.]

I hope so. [She smiles briefly.] It's ever pleasant to have abilities and resources you have come to rely on taken away for no discernible reason.

There's that, yeah. It's just the one that I'm talking about isn't the thing that beats in your chest. [ it's something else entirely. ]

It'd be nice to have it all back... But really, I'm not that worried. Just because I can't shoot fireballs or whatever doesn't mean I'm defenseless. It doesn't mean I can't protect what's important to me either.

Ah. I think I understand, then. [And she does, even if she's pretty sure humans at least on the Earth in her reality hasn't shown anything like sparks or what Sora might be talking about, but different realities are different realities.]

It's interesting that there are similarities sometimes.

[She chuckles then, and nods.]

Only relying on one skillset is never a good idea. Better to trust what you can do with only yourself and count anything else as a bonus. A will to fight means a lot, after all.

Someday I should make a list about all of the things that are similar and which ones are different. [ a lot of that stuff is interesting to note. part of the reason that Sora likes the places that he visits. ]

Sounds like an interesting idea. It might even have uses, if something happens, since if you know what's similar, it's also easier to know what's different and then you can exclude issues that way...

[She trails off and then smiles, dipping her helm in a nod.]

Sora. I'm Elita One.

You guys have some interesting names.

[ and he means that in a good way! it's very varied! ]

[That makes her laugh, taking no offense at all.]

And I'd say the same about most of you organics as well! But I think, in some ways our naming conventions are a little different and languages, which makes the translations... very particular sometimes.

Translations?

[ pfffft. this kid has never been anywhere that needed them. or maybe the Keyblade does that automatically. who knows! ]

... You might not have noticed it, but the Link provides translations for us. If you go out of reach for the Link, which is centered around the Haven, you wouldn't be able to understand me, nor I you, unless there was another method of translation, we had a common language, or I learned yours.

[Since it's rather easy for cybertronians to pick up language, as it were.]

Yeah... Can't say I noticed that. I've never had a problem understanding people when I world hop.

Interesting. [He tilts her helm, curious.]

Perhaps the... ah, magic provides translation? Or, which ought to be impossible, you're all speaking the same language.

It might be the magic thing. Wouldn't be the first thing like that it's capable of doing.

Though... Kinda would be neat to listen to a different language.

Sounds like it could be it.

[Chuckling, Elita taps a piece of crystal against her cheek.]

Well, while I want to finish this, and it would take a while to go out far enough the Link stops working, I wouldn't mind picking you up sometime and taking you out so you could hear it without translation.

I'm not gonna say no to that, but if it is too much trouble, then that's okay too.

[ won't be disappointed either way! ]

No, don't worry about it, it's not.

[She wriggles the crystal a little.]

I merely need to get this done and we can have a little excursion later - I'm going to patrol the outer edges, especially Solus Prime's quadrant more anyway.
