The Zone: Part Two

Thanks to the distraction caused by the various creatures and anomalies, and the interference from the ever-increasing radiation, pinpointing the fallen 'meteor' and likely source of the attacks may have been difficult up until now.

But efforts to locate it have paid off.

South-west of Haven, there is a ridged valley that did not exist a week ago. In it's center is a massive, sprawling power plant, exhaust towers rising up to the horizon. It is literally crawling with more mutants.

As if that was not ominous enough, it is a nuclear power-plant.

Anyone who has been to Earth or knows their human history - or happen to be from a Tyran universe - may recognize it for what it is: Chernobyl, straight out of some alternate Ukraine. The facility is tucked in the middle of the valley like it landed there, edges slightly off and melded into the landscape, but entirely intact in it's crumbling, ominous glory. Despite being of human-make, the building is devoid of functional electric lights, the very air around it seeming to leech the light out of the surroundings, but it is far from lacking in 'living' activity.

The concentration of anomalies, radiation, and Lambda-like energy signatures is at it's strongest here, surrounding the moldering facility. Any sensors point to the readings only getting worse on the inside.

Any organics or particularly weak-armored Cybertronians are going to want protective shielding of some variety to participate in this attack. The radiation in this valley is well beyond safe levels, and only on the rise. Any attempts to simply attack from the air (unfortunately) do little damage, the majority of any ordnance hitting some sort of storm cloud-like anomaly thundering with increasing intensity above the facility.

It looks like it might be growing. Time is running out.

You will have to enter to find the source.

[[Mod Note: Given modly time constraints, the following prompts are not intended to be NPC'd, but are instead to serve as a vague story-line for the assault. Feel free to use them, pick and chose only ones that interest you, or to thread your own attack as you please! However, once the Source is reached, a final prompt will be posted when it is destroyed, (or when the event comes to a close a week from today.)

And as a side-note, this plot contains SPOILERS to the end of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.]]

Hey falling takes all of one's concentration, Drift can't be blamed for that. And well, if he needs a systems flush after this, there are more medics available now beside Barricade.

Wing wishes his short range comms were working better than they have been down there. Something about the structure of the place, or maybe the radiation, made the signal broken and spotty in places. He tosses one last look down the corridor in the hopes he might hear others--friends he hopes--approaching. "We're down here!!" he shouts, before down after Drift. "I'm coming!"

He can't quiet his jump jets but at least they are not as loud as his nacelles are. Even so, he tries to be as discreet as possible as he floats down into the room, strange mist swirling around him, choosing a hopefully safe place to touch down near Drift.

A systems flush is something to worry about later. Right now, well, Drift isn't worried, you know, because he totally doesn't do worry. At all. He's go everything handled. Perfectly. Shush.

"Wing no--!" Oh, too late. Here he comes. Well, so much for keeping Wing safe, at least?

And Drift's yell was way louder than Wing's jets, so, yeah, big and ugly definitely heard that. Out in the still swirling smoke and dust, they hear a terrible, piston-rattling roar. "I...have no idea what that is."

There's lots of things to worry about later. And here will be a later, Wing will see to it. They haven't survived everything else this world threw at them to lose out now.

Nevermind that bit about Rodimus and the Glyphless

Sorry Drift, you think you could keep him away? This is where the danger's at so most likely, this is where they need to be. That's just the way these things usually work. Wing's helm snaps up at that roar, flight panels slicking tight to his body and optics going wide. "Not friendly, I'm guessing."

Yeah, there's enough time for other depressing and lethal stuff after they survive, you know, this depressing and lethal stuff.

And honestly, they'd faced enough danger out in the wastelands together side by side that it was a comfort to think of doing it again here. He just wished he knew what they were up against.

Then again, this might be one of those 'be careful what you wish for' scenarios, because the creature lumbers into view with a roar that seems to split atoms.

"Seconding that guess." And drawing his blades.

It's kind of the name of the game, depressing and lethal, but the two of them together have gotten good at being a beacon against that darkness, each brightening the other's light.

And knowing what they're up against it is definitely a blessing and a curse, judging by the...sheer amount of angry ugly that is the thing approaching them. Wing's grip on his weapons tightens, his resolute optics flicking towards Drift, "Same way we took that thing in the Badlands with Megatronus' forces? I'll start high and make an opening?"

It's a question, because he knows Drift's brand of tactics are just as valid as his textbook skill. Plus, they have resources they didn't have then: Drift isn't stuck on the ground.

" careful." He probably doesn't really have to warn Wing of that, but it's more for his own peace of mind, the concern he still feels, at the thought of losing Wing again. If losing Wing would save the world? He'd still choose Wing. It's probably the wrong answer, after all he's done to be good and right, but it's the honest answer.

The monster roars, arms thrown back, before lunging, limbs slashing randomly at the air. Drift waits for a beat, and then lunges low, hoping to hamstring the monster.

Wing remembers losing Drift at the hands of the glyphless Rodimus. That's not a thing he wants to go through again, so the jet understands. He lets his blade lick down the back edge of Drift's, like a battlefield caress. "You too, okay?"

When the monster attacks, Wing leaps, taking advantage of the over extension of its swinging limbs, sword carving up the outside of one arm clear to the shoulder. The cut is not as deep as Wing might expect, the creature's muscles are startlingly dense, but it's probably enough to get the thing's attention. His momentum carries him up and just to the edge of the mutant's reach, turning in the air and watching for the attack that will give Drift an even bigger opening to chain another attack after that hamstring.

"Don't worry about me."

Please. Because it feels weird, and no one ever did before.

He will remember the touch of their blades, a new kind of intimacy, equals and friends. It inspires him, as he attacks, and he can't help but be a little distracted, eager to watch Wing in action.

It had been so long ago on Theophany. And he'd seen Wing fight plenty, here, but it never got old, the jet always capable of some new grace, some casual elegance he could only dream of achieving.

It didn't mean he was sloppy. He arches up driving his other blade under what seems to be some scabby plate of skin, like armor. The thing roars, spilling some dark liquid, focusing its rage on Wing, flailing its arms wildly after the bright shape in front of it.

Wing just shoots him a special smile and a soft shake of the helm. "You're my other half, how could I not?!" Drift just has to get used to new things, whether they feel weird or not.

But hopefully Drift isn't being too distracted, otherwise Wing would be doing his task too well. He flits around in front of the thing, jump jets and wings twitching and turning, one foot pushing off a knuckle here, sword biting out at a hand there. He's bound to get smacked like a bug here at some point, but it'll be worth it if Drift gets in some good strikes.

"Well, then, I get to worry about you." Fair's fair!

He'd rather get used to waking up next to Wing in the morning than this.

No, scratch that. He hopes waking up next to the jet never gets to be something he takes for granted. It's probably his favorite part of the day. Wing's a surprisingly heavy sleeper.

Drift isn't going to let Wing's making himself a target go to waste: this monster needs killing, and that's one thing Drift is good at. Very good at. He's a flurry of blades, slashing into the beast, which roars, turning itself after Wing, blind with rage.
