[Text] There is such a thing as too many questions

[Guys you better brace yourselves because Four isn't holding back at ALL.]

Languages are an important part of society, whatever society that may be, and is always fascinating to study. I know that translators largely make it possible for us to communicate with each other regardless of the language we currently speak... or in my case, write. I have a large appreciation for spoken word and how words, ideas, and memories look like when written in different languages.

So what I want to know is: What language does everyone usually speak? I currently communicate in what humans call 'German', though I will switch between English and Arabic from time to time. I prefer not to use English too often though, it is not the most reliable language of the ones I know.

For Cybertronians: Are there different kinds of Cybertronian languages like there are different kinds of Earth languages? If there are, how and why do they differ?

Another couple of questions for Cybertronians:

Why do some of you have noses while others don't?

How does gender work for your kind?

How do you see while you are transformed?

Also

:)

Look I made a smile!

[Gah! So adorable. Must stay focused.] No, females are not considered natural back in my universe. From what I gathered from various sources, the experiment was to introduce gender into a gender void society. It wasn't entirely done for scientific research and developing our species. The scientist, Jhiaxus, was completely insane. This forced reassembly and reassignment caused the "female" to apparently become mentally unstable. I'm not sure if "she's" crazy, but I do know "she's" an extremely angry individual. But who wouldn't be? [He sounds like he can relate, just a little]

I don't know if it was a coincidence that she took on human female traits, but when compared to humans, we usually share the same general form. "Humanoid" is one of these terms. I guess despite how far apart we are in terms of our biology and physiology, we're not as entirely alien to one another as we once believed.

Ah, you have a brother? Back on my homeworld, that's not entirely commonplace, but it's not too rare either. Is he here, too?

I'm sure with all the strange and unusual species falling into this world, we're probably going to be up in our audiols with dozens of foreign languages.

Science and knowledge are power, and power can often corrupt. Shame, though, I do agree. And... Well, hopefully we never see Jhiaxus's ugly maskplates around this place.

Ah, I apologize regarding your brother. I hope you two may be united at some point in time. I can imagine it must be very hard being apart from them.

And... yes. All these new lifeforms do stir up my medical curiosity, that's for sure.

Well, my universe is full of very, uh, mentally distorted individuals. I'm not saying all of them were bad guys, either. But sometimes, when you've got a wicked mind, way too much curiosity, and the tools necessary, you can do just about anything. Doesn't mean you should, and... I really hope we never cross paths, to be honest.

Ah, if you feel a sense of alienation, don't. We're all strangers here; even though there's plenty of Cybertronians around me, not all are from my own universe. Just... Be careful, yeah. I'm trying to keep positive, see, as I've been in a situation where I felt I didn't *ahem* belong, so yes.

And, yes, I'm a medic, like Ratchet. My designation is Ambulon - forgot to mention that, having been caught up in the discussion. [plus his name sucks anyway]

I apologise, but I need to ask---

[She hadn't intended to say anything, merely listen to this rather... interesting variation, but in the end, Elita can't keep quiet. It does take a moment for her to actually gather her thoughts, however.]

... How does that even work? What would he even supposedly be able to change, since if I understand it right "male" and "female" rely on reproduction to make sense from each other, and we don't get more sparks the same way most organic species create offspring!

[She's mostly confused, and a little creeped out at the whole "experiment" thing. As far as she is aware, what might separate her from the other cybertronians in her own home dimension? Does not rely on anything close to the organic defintion of sex.]

Reports say that this reformatted "female" Cybertronian - designation Arcee - was refitted with a swath of conflicting sensory input and output in her altered CNA. The resulting product caused sensory distortions to those around her; meaning, if you were to pick up her energy signature, your processors would not equate her as standard neutral, but an abnormality to which our sensors trick themselves into equating closest to female. Basically, her very programming played tricks on people's minds.

Arcee was also given a more "feminine" appearance as part of the experiment, reminiscent of human female anatomy. I am still not entirely sure how the human body works, but females are built often quite differently than males, due to their role as carriers of their offspring. This includes expansion in the chest as well as wider hips. As such, her old body was given the same sort of details. [And an all-natural lipstick, oh my!]

I don't think she was given any sort of sex, however; no such mention of transplanted reproduction organs were mentioned in her medical files. Though I'm sure Jhiaxus thought about. [slightly audible shudder]

Needless to say, all this contradicting, conflicting sensory data coupled with unnatural CNA alterations and information processing has left her very unstable. Last I heard, she was on a hunt for Jhiaxus, having taken hundreds of lives in her desperate search.

But beyond that, Arcee is the only "female" Cybertronian in all of history to date. But I could be wrong - and I hope I'm not, for their sanity's sake.

[That... makes no sense to her. But does it make no sense because she's not a scientist or a medic, or because they are, truly, that different between realities? Elita has no idea.]

I wish I could say that makes sense to me... are we really that different across universes? Because if you had no previous concept of... "female" [she's not sure she likes that word, she connects it purely to organic species] how could even someone altered... induce that?

[She sighs, static washing over the audio feed for a moment before there is video, and look, she'll even zoom the view out so you can have a better view of most of her upper body.]

I wonder, though... is she what I am, or did this, er... Jhiaxus [amusingly enough, she pronounces the name slowly, exactly, rendering it closer to "Gee-axe-us" than the faster, probably more correct pronounciation would give.] completely mutilate this Arcee's very spark?

I wouldn't consider myself "female", but I've had all organics present, or those familiar with humans, think I am a... girl.

[It's been both most confusing and frustrating. Because what she was, was certainly nothing that was similar to an organic female. She was cybertronian after all.]

It doesn't make a whole lot of sense beyond the fact Jhiaxus was crazy and wanted to create a little chaos. I think the fact we identified her with feminine pronouns was also due to the sensory disruption and subconscious manipulation, inserting something new in our files. [that and Transformers continuity/logic be damned.] For all his madness, Jhiaxus was also pretty slaggin' smart.

And who knows, there might be other "female" Cybertronians in my home universe. I'm just not aware of them, because they're that rare.

I can only imagine the sort of experiments he put her through - mind, body, spark. I'd really not imagine, actually.

You would probably not register as female to my sensory core, no, unless of course you have the same altered CNA as Arcee's. I have a feeling you don't, otherwise you would probably be locked up in a penitentiary. Had Jhiaxus not manipulated her coding, and simply left her with a more feminine frame, I do not think we would necessarily sense much of a difference with her.

As far as I'd be concerned, your appearance would only come off as part of a new or different model line, not an actual statement of gender or sex. As a practitioner of medicine, we're all unique in our own ways, but in general, we all share the very basics. There'd be no difference between you and I other than our molds. There's jets, and then there's cars, and all that jazz. [TOE-MAY-TOE TOE-MAH-TOE ETC.]

((ooc: Seriously, I'm impressed by the explanation and neat sidestepping of the mess IDW fembots/Arcee are.))

... That makes an unpleasant amount of sense, if he's as unstable as you say he is and the lengths he must have gone through to do... that. It's hard to imagine the spark wouldn't just extinguish... Even if there are ways to keep someone from doing that.

[Logic, what logic in these continuites, right??]

Maybe that's usually a defining factor, I don't know any myself. [Elita shrugs, careless and dismissive about it; she's not alone merely because she's pretty... unique, so what does it matter, really?]

I don't think I would... I doubt CNA is... something I possess.

[Her spark bearing a unique energy signature? You bet. Anything else? Well, she's not a medic, but she does now her basic anatomy and physiology.]

[ooc: i've spent way too much time trying to make sense of the entire gender mess.]

No CNA? Now, that's interesting. I don't mean that in a "let's experiment" sort of way. I've just never come across someone who claims to have no CNA.

((ooc: haha, me too, and while I do have headcanon , at least I haven't had to factor in IDW which just makes it even messier, so definitive props!))

I'm honestly surpised as well, since that'd... imply a rather large difference ultimately, even if the result is the same. It seems strange, since we still are supposed to be the same species. [There's a moment's pause and then Elita shrugs to herself on her end.]

I wouldn't mind allowing a few scans or other such non-invasive things if you would like to compare. Ratchet said nothing when he scanned me, but that might simply be for similarity... or because he wasn't looking for that, I'm not sure if such a difference would be immediately obvious..?

[ooc: i'd love to hear it some time! i love how people interpret transformers and stuff. :D]

I must confess, I am curious from a medical/scientific point of view. [hums] It's a very interesting proposition (that doesn't feel like the correct word, but we're going with it), a hard one to pass up... Huh. I don't want you to put yourself in a position where you'd feel like an experiment, though. Vector knows how... awkward that can be. [clears vocalizer] But if you'd ever be willing to share any data, I'm quite open. I've been culling information from various lifeforms and species here out of both curiosity as well as knowing what I'm doing if or when I find myself treating them. [snort] My colleagues may think it's a waste of time, but whatever.

((ooc: Hee, sure! Meta stuff is always fun~ Could do AIM or a private plurk or something? /shrug))

Like I said, I don't mind at least some rudimentary scans or similar... I'm unsure if it'd actually have any impact on anything else medical-wise, but if it does I figure it might be useful to have more than Ratchet know something.

[She does have more patience for revealing "personal" things to medics, even where she wouldn't otherwise, but the fact that he's even being as courteous about it as he is? Certainly helps. The note of sympathy there seems to imply something in particular, but she isn't going to ask.]

I know Ratchet early on asked at least all of us who were from different realities than him to come by so he could do basic scans for any potential differences. I didn't ask, but if there's such a fundamental difference such as the existence, or lack thereof, of this... ah, CNA, you might want to talk to him to get his results.

[Soft shift of metal as she shrugs.]

Then you have it, and if they don't contain all you need, you're free to ask whatever you need.

[Though there's a tone implicating that if she doesn't like what she's asked, she'll just not answer... But this will mostly pertain any questions about her personal past.]
