[This seems problematic to Slipstream.] But, you're interacting with others, now. You have to be at least semi-autonomous. You emulate personality.

[With a nod and a soft smile, she answers.]

You are correct. I am able to act independently without my master, but my capabilities become somewhat limited as a result. It does not however hamper the function of my personality programming.

You are an intelligence. Artificial intelligence. But, not living?

Due to my reliance on outside programming, my creator does not feel that I qualify as an artificial intelligence. But...

[She pauses briefly out of confusion. That term had not been applied to persocoms in her experience.]

You know? Convert fuels to energy, maintain internal functions, self-repair, sense and respond to the external environment, create, adapt.

Intelligent life kinda communicates; and is self-directed, autonomous.

Some would add that organisms have some 'spirit' or 'spark of life', if you believe in that sort of thing.
