Vandal here.
I've been sifting through the junk pile and I found a few things of interest. A few hard drives, some music and films on them, haven't sorted through or formatted it yet, but if anyone's interested in some entertainment there's that.
Found some stuff I might be able to turn into a human-sized living space. Old mobile home. Kind of shitty, but a nice fat project to work on. But uh.
Can anyone help me haul this thing out? I mean, I got it dislodged, but my RIG only has so much moving power.
Also: Hey Max, you around? When are we going to do that whole drink until we can't stand thing?
[Private to Ratchet]
Ratchet? I have something to ask you.
[Private to Perceptor]
You owe me that story.

[Smile's in her voice.]
Totally up for that!
...What are hard drives?
And I can help you haul the...thingy out, the old mobile home thing, right?
...So is that exactly what it sounds like? A home that moves around by itself?
audio
Hard drives? You don't know what a hard drive is? It's like a data-storage device.
Uh. No. It's like a house on wheels.
You don't sound like you're a robot, are you?
switch to video
[Shrugs.] Never heard of those before.
Data? Is that another word for music and film?
video
Wow, seriously? Where are you from?
And yeah, it can be. Can be other stuff too. Data- information in pretty much any form.
Re: video
One of the versions of Earth--apparently, there's more than one! [Rolls her eyes. Then something occurs to her.] Oh, and our tech isn't as far along as here or some other places I've heard about. We have telephones, but those don't have any screens, we just talk and listen. We have movies that are sort of like the video phone thingies here--
[Korra points at the screen.]
--but they can't talk or make any sounds by themselves. Live music normally plays at our movies. [Scratches her head.] I guess a phonograph could play music for the movies, but I think it is nicer when movies have live music. Makes watching a film more special. And come to think of it, Satomobiles and Satocycles--er, cars and motorcycles are still kinda new. Their inventor's still around, and he's old, but not that old yet.
Oh, so data's a word for info! So hard drives are like libraries?
video
Earth, huh? Gotta say I'm a bit jealous.
Although the way you describe it, it sounds like you were just coming out of the dark ages or something. Sounds crazy, I can't imagine.
And yeah, they kind of are, actually.
Re: video
Well, we're into our 70th year after a century-long war--a pretty dark age there, I guess. It seems way behind my time now.
How do they work, exactly?
video
No kidding...
Oh man. Are you sure you want me to explain this? I hope you have a few minutes.
Re: video
I've got the time.
video
Well. Okay.
[And off she goes, explaining it in detail. Things that the mun doesn't feel like typing out. But she will be talking for the next twenty minutes.]
Re: video
[Korra tries to listen and absorb, looking a bit awed and still rather confused.]
Re: video
Space ships are- well. It's a mixed bag. The ships themselves are amazing feats of engineering! Absolutely beautiful. I could talk your ear off about all the different classes and types and what makes them work.
Buuuut being cooped up on them sometimes gets seriously tedious.
Re: video
Do you see animals swimming in the space? What are those like? [Korra thinks the space that space ships travel in must be like the ocean ships travel in.]
video
No, space is a vacuum. There's no air or warmth, so anything alive won't survive very long.
