[Oblivious to the current outbreak of unusual sicknesses and whatnot, Garrod is...apparently fine since he's poking about the Pile with no difficulties.

He uses a long bar of metal for leverage to shove heavier pieces of scrap aside, seeming right at home when it comes to scavenging. Something seems to catch his eye, and he grins, propping up his tool so he has his hands free as he crouches down.]

Ah-hah!

[He pulls up a can, and then setting it beside him, works out a couple more, slightly dented but still in good shape. The boy sits down cross-legged as he inspects them.]

Woohoo, canned beans! ...do these things expire?

[Setting all but one down, he pulls out a multitool from his beltpouch. ....Garrod, are you really- yes. Yes he is. He opens up the top of the can and then after taking a sniff, swaps out his multitool for a spoon.]

[Bah. So long as he's moving by himself and has a personality, who's Garrod to judge!]

[He thought they preferred driving themselves, but you can see his eyes practically light up. It's fun and all getting rides when he can, but it's different being allowed to drive!]

[Cybertronians likely preferred driving themselves, but Deckard had specifically been designed and built to let a human pilot him when required. Or when he choose to. His grin widened at the boy's excitement – that was actually exactly the response he'd been hoping for.]

[He changed again, shifting aside a little as he did so to put his driver's side flank to the boy, then swung the door open.]

[He's amazed that Deckard doesn't seem to have a problem with someone his age driving, and he's not going to wait to see if he'll ask, either. Practically jumping towards the transformed car, Garrod will slide right into the driver's seat!]

This is going to be awesome~~!

[Were this Japan (or pretty much any other country on Earth), he'd have issue if only for the legality. But there is no such law here. And besides, if anything does go wrong, he can always take control back to counter the situation.]

[He chuckles at the boy's excitement.]

Just don't go too rough on me, all right? I'm not built for off-roading and there aren't any good streets around here yet. Don't forget the seatbelt.

-oh, yeah, you got it! It's not like we're being chased or shot at anyway.

[He pauses. Seatbelt? Huh? What's that? At least he takes the effort to look for it, pulling hesitantly on the straps he finds at his shoulder.]

This thing?

Yes, that's it. Look for a buckle on it, down at the bottom by your hip. Pull the buckle across you over to the clip next to the seat by your other hip. That will put the strap across your lap and your chest.

[The top anchor of the belt is already adjusted way down low on the door frame so that it rides properly over the shoulder of a child instead of cutting up high across the throat or under the jaw.]

((ooc: LOL yes, I think about stuff like that. I'm /just/ short enough that most seatbelts don't hit /me/ right either. I use one of those special clips like you can buy for kids. orz))

Huh...

[He pulls it across him, locating the place to insert the metal end, and he clicks it into place.]

Okay, all set, I guess!

[Garrod drops his hands over the wheel.]

-unless there's anything else I needa know?

((OOC: Heheh! Hey, I figure Garrod's not used to seatbelts either way. His Gundam doesn't even have a harness ;;))

Well . . . have you ever driven an automobile before? You know how all the controls work?

[He's not going to assume, since the boy didn't even know what a seatbelt was.]

Yeah, I have! Gas, brakes, that's all the same, right?

[He looks down at the floor for the corresponding pedals.]

((OOC: - Correction, I guess they only use it in space. xD;;))

Gear shifts, et cetera, yes. [He's an automatic, but still…]

[Even without Garrod pressing on the gas pedal –yet –the engine revs invitingly.]

Got it! Let's see what you got, huh?

[He grins as the engine revs up, and after glancing around for the most ideal path to take them, rests his foot on the gas pedal before giving it a push.]

[Despite being a police car and not a race car, the engine is powerful. His head engineer, Toudou Shunsuke, had known he'd need power to get the job done.]

[The car lurches forward, tires finding purchase on the ground and easily turning the car to head for the chosen path.]

[Deckard is grinning to himself. It's been too long. They couldn't do it in the city, but Deckard used to let Yuuta drive when they were outside of the suburbs where there were fewer other vehicles on the road with them. Dumpson used to get on him about that - it was still against the rules - but he'd known that he could quickly take back control if anything happened. And Yuuta loved it.]

So where are we going?

[He's just being nosy. He doesn't really care, so long as he gets to do this for a while.]

[So technically Garrod was underage for a driver's license, but when your world was practically post-apocalyptic in the aftermath of a war between earth and the space colonies, law enforcement was pretty slack if non-existent in a lot of places. The boy was used to doing what he needed to and as he pleased, so he probably wouldn't understand if someone got on his case about driving.

At least he seems to have a decent handle on the wheel.]

Hm, good question. How about over where that big lake is? You good on gas? Or...what do you run on, anyway?

In Alpha Trion's quadrant? Yes, if you've not been there, it's really beautiful.

[Deckard has to actually think about that for a moment. He's learned he could last a good few hours at least in robot form, but he's not really tested things in vehicle form yet.]

Unfortunately, there's no gasoline here. I was converted to run on energon when I arrived. I should be good for at least an hour or two, probably more. I'll let you know if things prove otherwise.

((ooc: Ideas where to go with this? We can handwave and assume too, if need be. NGL, Deckard will keep Garrod's attention as long as he can. XD;;; He will actually kind of seek Garrod out semi-regularly, checking on him and such.))

Yeah, that place. I've been there a few times. You think there's fish in that lake?

...energon? I wonder if I'll have to look into that, too...
